I've been sewing garments for 60 years and can be certain of one thing, Kylie J's front lines are because the dress did not fit, it was too tight in the hips. That 'bunching" was not due to fabric creasing from sitting, it's because the fabric is pulling upwards,. I imagine this put great strain on the seams and may have even caused some damage. That dress was made for a model to wear once, a model who is tall and very, very thin all over. Not meant for an hourglass shaped person. Hey....maybe that fit the theme after all! Maybe the dress split open at the seams by the end of the night so the passage of time showed in the damage to the dress!

Lana Del Ray's thorn costume is a spot on Sleeping Beauty reference (not dead winter foliage awaiting reawakening spring). In the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty lay in a tower for 100 years. Jennie is supposed to be the fashion icon of korea but her looks in the met gala are honestly not giving. She had soooo many opportunities in this theme. She couldve represented her country, referencing korean traditional clothes which are very colorful and rich with floral motifs just as that one indian interviewer did with her sari. Or i dunno. But generally, the lot of them are just so disappointing. They have money and teams for it. The met gala theme was the garden of time. It just doesnt mean a literal garden. It could be about decay and rebirth. There should have been more insect themed dresses, dresses overgrown with vines and moss, butterflies, ruins, etc.xx

I adored how Lana’s look evoked the end of the story, “Just below the terrace, between the wrecked balcony and the wall, was a dense, six-foot-high growth of heavy thorn-bushes. The barbed foliage formed an impenetrable mass, and the people passing stepped around it carefully, noticing the belladonna entwined among the branches. Most of them were too busy finding their footing among the upturned flagstones to look up into the centre of the thornbushes, where two stone statues stood side by side, gazing out over the grounds from their protected vantage point.” And then about the woman’s figure it says, “In her left hand she lightly clasped a single rose, the delicately formed petals so thin as to be almost transparent,” just like Lana held a rose in her left hand.

The MET really needs to invite all the stylists to a private showing of these exhibits BEFORE the Gala takes place, even if only virtually. It could be literally a cut and paste situation for their clients to bring to designers. Well, no complaints Luke is doing a multi-part video series on this Gala and it is always fun each year to decide: (1) got it (2) sort of got it (3) nice outfit and the inevitable (4 ) what was anyone thinking when this was chosen for the Gala.

For bad bunny, i think its perfectly on theme with the garden of time. This is not exposed stitching, its a process called basting, where you use a contrasting weak thread to momentarily keep 2 layers in place while you saw them with your machine. Its also used when you cant make temporary marks with chalk (see the red marks beneath his throat). Then, when the piece is finished, you take the basting threads out. The basting is done by hand as you can see by the length of each stitch that are way too long for a machine. The breast pocket is still closed to avoid the fabric to move and distort the final piece. Its not meant to be pretty or regular, its purely functional. Its really delicate and its designed to snap easily (you can see that he accidentally pulled on a thread thats lower right on his jacket) To me, the basting is reminiscent of the novel because they went back in time too far, the garnement isnt yet complete

i think Sydney Sweneys dress would have been wonderful if they had leaned into the topic of petrolium in clothing. Nowadays polyester is used in so many pieces and i feel like the gloves represent that with their the plasticy (& oily) look. The stems of the flowers mirror that plastic. What would have made the look complete, is if they had dunked the bottom of the dress in oily substance, or changed the colours of the bottom to dark brown/black to show that. That transition from light blue to those dark colours and the implements of oil looking/plastiky material throughout the dress would symbolise how fashion has been taken over by plastik (polyester). With *time* clothing has shifted from being entirely made out of wool or cotton to being made mostly out of polyester on a broad scale. Her dress would have beautifully symbolised that. & the dark hair would also fit to that theme since it isn't a sunshine and rainbows topic.

What I read was that she represents the sea. That’s why the waves and the pearls. The theme wasn’t just flowers it was also the see, the land and the air. That’s why I also think that Ari was on theme because she represented the air with her wings and the white, cloud like dress. I am obviously a Jennie fan so I’m biased lmao. But I also do appreciate fashion and I can very clearly see the intent of the designer. I don’t think Jennie cares that much about the theme but I do think the designer cared a lot and tried to do something interesting and different and in my opinion they achieved it. To me fashion isn’t about being flashy it is also about being creative and caring about details. What’s also cool about the dress is, that it’s supposed to be completely recyclable which also includes the time aspect.

Yes! I was hoping for some statue inspired outfits, as well as something with live flowers on the bottom (didn't have to be real) but you go up, the blooms become deader until you reach the top and it's full on gothic makeup. And there are so many types of gardens that could have been used for inspiration too. I was thinking that a zen garden dress would have been interesting or maybe something sundial inspired, since it would incorporate both gardens and time.

That’s what I saw in Doja’s look. Sort of between a deteriorating statue and a ghost from a family mausoleum deep in the garden.

Taylor Russel did something like this it was a corset made to look like a tree with SMALL flowers around the waist. There could’ve been more flowers but no. But i thought the tree idea was very good

Lana stole the evening for me ❤ Zendaya was stunning but she has reached the top of fashion and I believe our expectations are insane. She is an icon. Tyler simple but theme and beautiful. As an older woman, for me Chloe can never do wrong..an icon from the 90's.

Lol Thank you! The Garden of Time is a sci-fi story about inevitable Death. "Where are the colors!" It's not a cute fairytale, it's a dark and twisted story about the Elite's obsession with beauty and possession when they're gonna die eventually. The first look is giving Hunger Games' Capiitol fashion. "Where are the flowers?" She's wearing them with that freaking royal funeral dress! It's a perfect reference.

@@adinaanams7531 In their defense, kpop companies, netizens, and the whole industry is very picky with idols, and idols never get the chance to be creative or expressive, only ever allowed to be safe so they don't get hate. It sucks, but when doing a MASSIVE event like this, especially with how much attention it gets, they need to be safe with their looks. many people suck and will hate on them for anything. as a big stray kids fan myself, most of us are also disappointed at how basically styled they were as their concert and performance outfits are usually insane. Most of the members are signed to their own separate brands like Versace, lv, Loewe, McQueen etc etc, but as a group they’re ambassadors for th and it sucks that they had to by styled by th. These outfits are so obviously untailored and such ugly and cheap looking fabric, even make up wise their make up at the korean red carpets is usually heavier on the contour and eye shadow, they usually play around with blush and face gems/glitters to so it really pisses me off that we were so robbed. Stray Kids is known for breaking male fashion norms in their performances and yet th had to go and fuck up their first met, at least they looked fine as fuck and enjoyed their time edit: they've also had many looks that are inspired by the traditional Korean hanbok, I think back to their lollapalooza france headlining in which they wore modernised black and gold hanboks (colours of korean royalty) and I loved them for it, if only th got the memo ://

Tommy did them dirty, it was exactly what I expected and I‘m so mad as a stay, the kids deserved better. Being the first kpop group to be invited and then having them turn up in last minute outfits is a pitty. Tom Ford was matching and as they asked him why he chose his look his explanation had me shook, just say you want to sell suits and move on. I know that as we saw Lixie and Binnie post more close ups that you could see the flower embroideries on the jackets and button downs and rose buttons on these looks, but still that’s the laziest interpretation of the whole night, even if it’s kinda on theme.
