Mid-Autumn Festival is the second-most important festival in China after the Chinese New Year. It's also known as the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival. In Chinese, it's 中秋节.
Mid-Autumn Festival takes place annually on the 15th day of the 8th Chinese lunar month. In 2024, it falls on Sep.17. Combining one day of the Mid-Autumn Festival and two weekend days, Chinese people usually have a 3-day public holiday.
There are many stories and legends about its origin. The most famous one is 嫦娥奔月, the beauty Chang'e flying to the moon.
