I can always instantly pull that sound up in my memory from when I was a kid playing it in the 80's. They should be nailing this type of thing in 2024! They really made the colors pop and artwork flow on that unit. Simply as a showpiece it would be worth the money to a lot of people, but what seems to be a massive upgrade in playability makes it a slam dunk. Thank you for confirming the high score saving when power is denied (and for 12+ hours!), that alleviated the techy OCD in me, now I'll just need you to disassemble it to confirm there's no button cell battery back up in it so I can truly sleep at night haha. Another wicked review Jon, already hyped for what you and the crew come out with next.

11:50 In Ma. Pac-man those restrictions on ghost AI don’t exist so the ghosts can go where ever they want to, well besides inside the walls. Only way to do that if you somehow get to level 256, when Ms. Pac-man crashes around 150.

yesterday got the (daily) high score of 82000 on the Ms. Pac Man at the Silverball museum in Asbury Park NJ. It was playing on the fast speed option which made it a little easier. Still such a good game. :)

I have played hundreds of games of Ms. Pac-Man. Once and only once the first maze came up as the Pac-Man maze. This was an odd glitch. Reportedly, the maze still exists in the ROM because Ms. Pac-Man started as a hack of Pac-Man. Occasionally the first Ms. Pac-Man maze will appear a different color. Many people have seen this. This is a glitch.

Your knowledge of the history and the mechanics help us tremendously in these reviews. I noticed on the peel off screen decal they show the 5 life version often seen in the speed up arcade versions. However when you power it up myarcade only has the 3 life version. I’m wondering if there is a way to tap into the dip switches to gain access to the 5 life version?

I call that, "accidental competence," James. 😁 I never spent any time trying to build a knowledge base for these classic games, but since as a kid I dumped every quarter I got my hands on into them, I developed a familiarity that is serving me well today. It's curious - there's no mention of dip switches or an options menu, but if I discover one, I'll be sure to report it!

I've been waiting for years for someone to release the "speed up" Ms Pac Man that, in my experience, was the version that kept the game alive from the mid 80s til the late 90s in every arcade, bar and laundromat. But sadly, this still isnt quite "it". The arcade "fast rom" version only speed up Ms Pac Man, not the music and other elements. And the sounds (specifically the sound of Fast MsPac eating dots) are really *off*..... this just doesnt seem like the true experience. 🤔🤷‍♂️ back to MAME I guess

That's a nice add on. The graphics and sound are on point. But the game play isn't like the original arcade gameplay. They tried improved on the ghost intelligence and movements and failed in a sense. I'll collect it for the hell of it though, because I'm a huge Ms. Pac-Man fan.

I would unplug for longer than a split second. Sometimes it'll temporary cache information. Unplug it for about a minute and see if it still holds the high score.

The high score persists without power for quite some time. I've left it unplugged for 12 hours or more, and the scores are still present.

I have a "regular" MyArcade Ms. Pac-Man and it looks like the same ROM with turbo mode added - the ghost behavior is still a little off, like how they still try to "chase" Ms. Pac-Man even after energizers are eaten, as opposed to scattering or reversing their path.

11:40 that is actually normal behavior in ms. pac-man, however that behavior is messed up in their pac-man joystick player. The only gameplay inaccuracy im seeing here is that the ghosts dont reverse when eating a power pellet. Usually I could make a whole list of gameplay inaccuacies, color me impressed!!!! theres a lot of graphical and sound stuff of course, but that doesnt impact that gameplay! Its such a shame that my arcade seems to struggle when turning their improved ms pac-man rom back into a pac-man one. (on the pacman joystick player, watch as the ghosts exit the house. they snap a tile over. i have no idea how that even happens from a programming stand point!)

Love your videos. A side note, Miss and Ms. are not interchangeable. The abbreviation of "Ms." is correctly pronounced "mizz", not "miss". "Miss" refers to an unmarried woman. Ms. was created as an abbreviation that did not denote marital status. "Mizz" is the correct pronunciation, it was created for the sole purpose of being differentiated from "miss".

The sound is the most disappointing aspect for me. I'd be interested in a follow-up video where you compare the game sounds and music from this version with last year's version and then analyze how each stacks up against the original arcade ROM. Just out of curiosity, are high scores permanent or can they be reset back to 10,000 if one so desired? I noticed you mentioned that these will be shipping at the end of this month but Amazon currently has this unit scheduled to release on 10/21/24 and the Pac-Man unit is scheduled for 10/30/24. Did you mean at the end of next month or will My Arcade actually start shipping them in just a few days?

it feels like they can't (or won't) get a complete package together. The form factor isn't great, but the side art and joystick seem good. The screen looks good, but like the Pac-Man unit, the sound is muffled. The rom is the biggest thing. Give me an accurate rom and that would forgive the other short comings.

They may not have the licensing for that version of the rom or that version may be under a different license/owner of license than the one they negotiated with these old video games the licensing is kind of a grey area where they have certain versions that are exclusive for coin operated devices another for home use etc. and over the years the licensing has become sold to other companies etc. so certain companies only have access to certain versions - which is why there are different versions released by different companies depending on how the licensing was arranged.
