The all-new Lexus GX steps into 2024 as a far more advanced and sophisticated midsize luxury SUV. In fact, other than the name and the overall shape, the new GX shares nothing with the vehicle it replaces. To wit, this new-generation GX is built on the Lexus GA-F platform, also used in the current-gen LX 600. This platform offers more body rigidity and elevates on-road handling, a key aspect of the Lexus Driving Signature. The vehicle’s architecture is designed to endure the rigours of off-road driving as well.
The 2024 Lexus GX is powered by a 3.4L twin-turbo V6 engine which produces 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. The engine’s integration with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel-drive ensures a balance of capability and refinement whether on highways or rugged terrains. The new GX also touts improved fuel efficiency, but that remains to be seen in the real world. Towing capacity maxes out at 8,000 lbs, depending on trim and equipment.
The 2024 Lexus GX’s exterior showcases a square-body profile with a horizontal design motif-in other words, it’s boxy, and we like it that way. The vehicle’s enhanced ground clearance and approach, breakover, and departure angles make it adept at overcoming challenging terrains. Standard features like the triple-beam premium LED headlamps, Lexus’s signature L-shaped light bar, and a power rear lift door, elevate both functionality and aesthetics.
