I think another big reason the Panthers jumped into the first round because it gives them the 5th year option on the contract. Take him at 33 and you lose that extra year, similar to the Ravens trading into the end of the first for Lamar to ensure that contract.

I'm still trying to figure out the thought process behind the Penix pick. If we wanted a young QB to sit and learn behind Kirk, I feel like JJ would've been the better pick. I think we could've easily traded back with a QB hungry team, added more draft capital, and still grabbed up a defensive stud. This move proves that it's time for Fontenot to go.

@@caezarDot Don't gotta tell me twice im on the Fire Fontenot train as we speak. Crazy part is Penix was actually my #2 QB in this class and original pick to us at 8. Before we signed Cousins so i don't hate the player at all i just hate how dumb and inept the FO is in handling the roster. They could salvage it if they can somehow get Hendrickson to go all in while cousins is here. But taking a round 2 or later edge and skipping the entire FA edge class or trade options. Is just ignorant with how bad our pass rush has been over the last decade plus.
