@@A.j.Harris In 14 years he never had the same level of cap space or control that Kwesi has achieved in 2 years. I'm not saying Rick was terrible, he was fine, average, but he definitely wasn't great. Your memory seems to be very selective, sure Rick did draft a few great players, but only about 12 of the players on Spielman's last 90 man roster (2021), are still on the team. You remember picks like JJ, but conveniently forget picks like Treadwell, Ponder, the guy picked after JJ - the late Jeff Gladney, another 1st round bust Mike Hughes, or even Wyatt Davis, an early third rounder that never played a snap in the league. Rick had 4 out of 30 3rd round picks in 2021 and managed to pick the only 3 guys that are basically already out of the league or practice squad guys - Mond, Davis and Chazz Surratt. Just look at that round and see the players he passed on - Odighizuwa, Nico Collins, Alim McNeil, Quinn Meinerz, Melifonwu, Deablo, St Juste - nearly 20 starters of the 30 are now starters. Only Darrisaw, Bynum and Jones II & Nwangwu (just) remain from the 11 players from Rick's last draft. Why are you so quick to insult when you are clearly underinformed, lack context, and really don't show any depth or nuance in your thinking? You sound like a bit of a lightweight...

Love Rick’s take on the quarterback question. The question is a talk show point but not a real football point. Saying top 8 QBs is a stupid point. It should be are they a game changer
@Biz6139 ай бұрын
Exactly, if you’re burning a 1st round pick on a QB, he needs to have the raw talent to be able to beat guys like Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Lamar, etc. if not, he’s not 1st round material.
@adrianbuck87728 ай бұрын
The expectation/bar for an player should and does change depending where the guy is actually picked in the first round (early, mid,late). Spending an mid to late first round pick on an guy which is around Jimmy G for example is an good pick if you need an QB soon. Most of the guys you mentioned where just difficult to get for the good Teams.
@adrianbuck87728 ай бұрын
Top 8 is roughly the number of QBs which have separated from the pack during the past years. So having an top 8ish QB means you have an meaningfull QB advantage in most of your games.

Washington Commanders had a great head coaching hire. Quinn ia proving that with his coaching staff. So far impressive.
@Craighomoffman8 ай бұрын
yep, I learned a lot from the Quinn hiring. I was 100% convinced Quinn would be hired by the Seahawks. His coaching comp is Pete Carroll which makes sense. The Jay Gruden hire was similar in that he didn't have the experience to bring in a strong coaching staff. Rivera only cared about comfort and hiring friends. He could have hired Kevin O'Connell and passed. That's when I knew he was clueless. Quinn operates on an entirely different level.
@washingtoncommandcenter55419 ай бұрын
As a Commanders fan, I know Spielman was only involved in the GM/HC search, but I hope he was able to instill a little bit of his way of thinking with the staff, with him talking about QB being a needle in a haystack, The importance of all 53 guys and his feeling that if you think there's a future Hall of Famer on the board you take him, no matter the position. I think that falls in line with the thinking that helped build SF into a perennial contender. I'm hoping Adam Peters follows that and can replicate what San Fran did in his 1st years there, with a swap from 2 to 3 and let the Patriots take QB 2, so we can get paid probably at least pick 34, to take a future HOFer in MHJ. I think MHJ & 2 or hopefully 3 2nd round OL would help team a lot more than slapping a young QB into a bad situation and wasting years of his valuable contract trying to build around him.

I'd love to hear more about draft pick trades and trade value charts. Are teams still using the JJ trade value chart, does that value change year to year based on strengths and weaknesses of the draft, are teams trying more data driven "trade win probabilities"? How do teams know if pick 35 is worth pick 49 + a 3rd next season.
@adrianbuck87729 ай бұрын
I think Teams have nowadays adjusted trade value Charts (Pffs Brad Spielberger for example has one which has newer data in it compare to JJ) but they are not using the same one which helps in making trades, because slight differences can make both sides view themselve as draft trade winners.
@adrianbuck87729 ай бұрын
The value chart in General should stay consistent but if there is the perception that there is only 1 guy of the higher Tier of prospects left that could be worth it to lose some overall pick value chart points. Future picks are valued by an expected future draft Position - some sort of discount because it takes time till the pick helps on the field.
@nguye5789 ай бұрын
@@adrianbuck8772 Right right. And I'm guessing each team has a different discounting rate for future picks. At a certain point it just comes down to, "do you want this pick or not." But jobs can literally be on the line based on the outcomes
