As a LONG time Ford man I can't wait for this truck to come out. I have never been so excited about a new truck. I have already sent my money in to get on the early buy list as soon as possible. I don't care if it costs $100k.

This is more than likely the way to go at this point in time. Until such time that other sources of energy are developed. Is it the absolute end game move, possibly not . But more than inching towards fuel economy and still functional.

When the battery is dead and you are using the motor to charge the battery is it enough to run at highway speed while towing?

Yes, when the battery reads 0%, it will actually be at 15% and the ICE will be working to keep it from depleting below 10%. The ICE will be able to run at peak efficiency to keep a charge on the battery which will put more power to the wheels than if the engine were connected to the drivetrain like the 4xe line.

So how are we saving a lot of money on fuel? Thing has like a 23 gallon tank and if you go long distances a fair amount, seems like you will only save on the 150 mile range which I suspect on highway would be half as much

it is said to have a 92 kwh battery, in my Tesla I get a little over 200 miles. so if the V6 generator than kicks in to charge it, you get a ton of range. With the engine strictly used to charge the battery and not connected to the drive train, you get the best of both worlds. The smooth brutal power and speed of an EV with exceptional range of up to 700 miles. not having to stop at a charging station on a road trip, and still just plugging in at home when running around town. The way I drive I would rarely need gas unless going on a road trip. This seems to be the best of both worlds, even better than a traditional hybrid.

The way I see it- most trips are battery only. Only on longer trips will you use fuel on the ICE. The MPG rating will be user specific- for me, 80% of use will be commute and local errands within battery range. When I’m on a road trip or longer - yeah the fuel economy is meh due to the weight but a price I am more willing to pay for the range/ dependability.

I’m more of a Ram buyer but all the truck manufacturers have their pros & cons regarding reliability. Ford F-150 vs. Toyota Tacoma dependability sees both trucks offer strong ratings. However, J.D. Power awarded the 2023 Ford F-150 a Quality & Reliability score of 86 out of 100. Meanwhile, they handed the 2023 Toyota Tacoma a Quality & Reliability score of 83 out of 100. Ram is using proven technology in the Ram-Charger. The 3.6 has been around for over a decade. The chassis is basically a Generation V. It’s a direct charging system into the batteries. Now like all manufacturers, I wouldn’t buy the first generation. Let Chrysler work out any issues with the Gen I Ram Charger. It may not be the best option for you. Maybe if proven tech, Toyota or Lexus will make a Truck & SUV utilizing generator technology.

Funny you mention Toyota being reliable. Not taking anything away from Toyota they make great trucks. I drive a 21 Ram 1500 Lariat, purchased in November 2020. A co worker of mine has a 22 Tundra 1794. I've had 1 recall, Toyota just completed his 9th recall. So........there's that.
