I’ve made hunters mark essentially a ranger’s smite (not the new smite 🤦🏿♀️) - they can choose to apply it on a successful attack by spending a spell slot - the damage and duration is based on spell level, they can move it to a new target by hitting them when if they kill the original - then, they can up the spell level to add additional effects like cunning strike from the UA rogue

Diamond Soul isnt gone. The article states that features that didn't receive many changes were included and that was one of them

Neat, thank you for the Monk rules, one of my players will be happy to give them a try 😄

One of the biggest problems with the ranger is it's class identity in combat. I feel like they they alot of flavor stuff but not enough of a core presence in combat. To consolidate the class I think it would be cool to give ranger the ability to cast a ritual that allows them to adapt to the type of terrain they are in. For combat I think some like the knack system Lazer llama made or something that give them a lowering crit threshold when using Hunter's mark and remove concentration as the level up. I think incorporating features like this would help the ranger in combat as well as keeping a better grasp of the flavor or a ranger. I would love to hear your thoughts on something like this.

100% agree with being able to "prepare" favored terrain or favored enemies. Ranger should be adaptable

I'm not sure if Diamond Soul was removed. In playtest 8 they just renamed it to Disciplined Survivor. It wasn't in the article on DnD Beyond but neither was extra attack at level 5 and there is no way that is gone. In other articles if a feature was removed from 2014 they made sure to mention it.

Yeah the rogue's mechanics look logical on paper (or when being simulated by a VTT) but I feel like it is going to be a nightmare at the table. Ranger not enough and wrong type. Rogue mostly too fiddley. Monk just about right.

I don't think they have a clear ideal for the Ranger class fantasy in combat out out of combat. I never would have thought magic user as part of ranger.

Monk damage one die up? No I would go back to the 3.5 monk damage (without variance with size).

Monk should have just gotten their own version of cunning action that didn’t cost fp giving them dash, disengage and dodge as a bonus or use fp to do those things without using their bonus action

Bonus dodge for no resource is way too good

9:54 I'm pretty sure Diamond Soul is still a monk feature- just renamed to Discipline Survivor or something like that haha. Also yes, I'm going to miss Tongue of Sun and Moon and being ageless 😢 they were really nice features

Ahh, I didn't realize diamond soul was still there! That was the main thing that made high-level monks viable for me, glad they didn't kill it

After seeing all the changes Crawford talked about with 5.5e... Yeah, im not impressed...it looks like way to much overpowered class designs (or in the case of the Ranger, somehow making it worse) were used as "band-aids" to cover up all the broken, but I reckon thats just gonna make the DM's job that much more difficult...and thats assuming the DMG for 5.5 gives a functioning Encounter Builder Table... Lucky everyone will be able to play on D&D Beyond's VTT with AI-DM's! Honestly, Kobold Press' ToV looks to be the better fix for the 5E d20 System... Although, truthfully... Green Ronin's AGE System (Fantasy AGE 2e) is a way better D&D 5E then 5E ever was, in my opinion... But really, if the goal of the game is to Roleplay; there are better game systems out there...
