So I have a 5.1 surround system, a 77" oled TV, a ps5 and a Yamaha rx-v371 a receiver which isn't the newest receiver in the world. Would you say I should upgrade my receiver first or get a dedicated blu ray player instead? I'm open to upgrade either one, just don't have the cash to do both right now

If you purchase a 4k player w 2 hdmi outputs you could keep your current set up.

Your PS5 is already capable of playing 4K discs! You really don't "NEED" to improve anything. A noticeable receiver upgrade will probably mean adding more surrounds as well. EVEN MORE EXPENSES!

Its really time for Panasonic to replace UB820. AI upscaling and choosable output format between native, upscale to 1080p or upscale to 4k to get out the possible best of Blu-rays and old DVD:s.

My Sony X700 freezes on all 4k Blu Ray videos that are longer than 2 hours long. Dunno if its a TV or player issue, but had same issue with an LG player and returned it for refund over a year as support said they know of that issue and told me to just return it. Sony seems to be a bit better but freezes on all 4k Blue Rays regular Blu Ray's it works fine no issues.

@ryandoling7479 I had the exact same issue with my x800m2. I tried 3 different HDMI-Cables, another TV, software updates... but nothing helped. I looked it up and found out, that unfortunately it's quite common. So I contacted Sony. Long story short, the first time they said there is no issue. The second time they changed some internal parts. Since then it never froze again!

With the Sony It skips going between layers one and two on 100 gig disc, in order for it to play those disc perfectly you have to set the resolution of the player to 4K and remove auto upscaling. After you adjust those settings, it will work perfectly fine. (which will ultimately give you a better picture quality in general because 4K do not need any type of upscaling and it will upscale everything else to 4K) I. The problem is less compression on 100 gig disc and the player is trying to add pixels that are not necessary. Mine has not skipped in years after applied those settings

I got the same - its a player. Also hangs sometimes and needs to by physicaly disconnected for socket.

One thing that really annoying is television only having 3 hdmi in puts you would think they would make it 4 hdmi inputs

doesn't have as many audio formats that some of theses blue ray players have which makes your movies sound better but the consoles would do just find when it comes to the quality.

The PS5 is an average 4K player, although way better than the Xbox series X it cannot compete with a standalone 4K player. The Sony UBP700m is superior in terms of picture, quality and sound. There is one drawback you have to set the resolution to 4K and turn off auto upscaling or it will skip 100 gig disc but overall it is far better.

@@Scifi4lifelol No it’s NOT as good of a movie player as the PS5, the Xbox series X is actually the worst 4K player out there even the most budget of 4K players look and sound better while playing movies. (this is not an opinion it is factual. You can look this stuff up for yourself)

I found the Panasonic DVD player couldn't player couldn't player dvd the beekeper in dts unfortunately i will probably have to go for something more expensive model than Panasonic

The funniest thing I have ever heard, Panasonic knows how to make better blu-ray players than Sony, who are the inventors of blu-ray, hahahaha, it would be like Ford manufacturing Chev cars better LOL I got my eye on the UB9000 model though, more pricey, but it looks nicer, you can't go wrong with the 820, very much the same thing, but cheaper, and still the best out there.
