Online leaderboards are essential for me. I used to play at arcades and seeing someone else’s initials on a leaderboard drove me to surpass it. We are 2020+ year so no leaderboards is baffling to me

They exist but they really suck. Basically, you have to hit escape, and a submenu for the game comes up, likely a wrapper from Shooting Game Maker. There's a small button that says Leaderboard, and it brings up the Steam Leaderboard with is pretty awful when comparing yourself to the world. There really should have been something made in the game itself that better shows your position relative to the others around you. Is the next guy up 2,000 points higher? A million? Who can tell?

Digging this game! I'm a beginner and managed the easy 1cc fairly quick. Normal feels very attainable because of the amount of bombs you get too. And even for someone like me who mostly only focuses on survival, the extra hits you can take after going into boost mode does a good job of making scoring feel attainable.

I tried playing for survival only but I'm one of those players that once they figure out a thing and gets used to the idea behind that thing - in this case getting giant scores for fast extends - I just can't go back, even if it means wasting time and having to restart over and over.

Well, this looks great! I'm curious- the ships rotate in 3 dimensions in a way that looks really good, but still pixelated. Any idea how that's animated?

Many, many frames. It's all actually 2D, but it's also not at all surprising, given the simply jaw-dropping work Vanillaware (of which Shigatake was a part) has done in the past. If you haven't yet, check out Odin Sphere or Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Both are exceptional, and impossibly gorgeous.

I'm making an indie STG, but the references (masterpieces) are 20 years old, so the reference is outdated in some ways to apply to a newer game. The play screen of the reference is also based on the arcade STG with a portrait screen, but most players who buy games that are not enthusiasts most non-enthusiast players don't use a portrait screen. The horizontal STG is different in design and orientation, which required a lot of thought and experimentation. This game has given the creators new inspiration and a new direction.

I hope the channel grows faster, as it should as you are one of the best to review shoot em up. I appreciate your videos you made on the other channel. I have a perhaps difficult question to answer. but I play almost exclusively on the Switch since I had another child. so my mega drive, saturn, dreamcast and 360 are just gathering dust now in the video game room along with all the 100's of shoot em up games. I have all M2's games. But which three shoot em ups with a global leaderboard do you think are the most fun for the Switch? i find i like global leaderboard a bit more now than completing 1cc. regards Emil from Sweden

Thanks for the kind words. We're already getting similar numbers on viewership here, so I'm sure things will look up soon! On Switch, I'd definitely say Crimzon Clover leads the pack. Sol Cresta has a great Caravan mode and neat scoring. I'm not really sure off of the top of my head about others, but I'll get back to you if I think of another!
