We just got back from Sheepdog. It is an extremely well run match, we were shocked how quickly we were done, it flowed perfectly. The staff does a great job.

Thanks for the ideas. Relative background. . . Back in the day, I shot the first two National BUG matches at S&W in Massachusetts, first with my wife’s 2.5” S&W 686, then with an M&P Compact. Also, the Indoor Nationals at S&W with my 686 SSR. More recently, I shot CCP at the 2021 Nationals in Colorado. In between, I’ve shot both the USPSA Single Stack and Revolver Nationals at PASA Park, IL and ICORE’s IRC in Nevada. While there’s a certain cool factor in having a mega Nationals with all the divisions represented, I personally like it better when Nationals are split up with similar divisions competing together, ala USPSA. For example, one combination could be CO & PCC, another could be BUG & Revolver, the two low-capacity divisions. That leaves SSP, ESP & CCP. Some might prefer combining CCP with BUG & Revolver, but I believe that the CCP rule change to 10-round mags completely removes CCP from any idea that the division is limited in capacity. Also, the newish 15-round rule for SSP makes that division more than competitive with ESP & its slightly smaller brother, CCP. Additionally, while splitting Nationals up by division or groups of divisions would be more work for HQ, it would serve the membership better by (a) providing national venues around the country much more than we’ve ever seen before, and (b) create opportunities for many to compete in multiple nationals each year, and (c) open the door for smaller facilities to host a national championship due to a somewhat smaller turnout.

Dude, I totally agree, and thanks for the background. Sounds like we like a lot of the same divisions. I see what you're saying with putting CCP with the big guns because of capacity. I don’t disagree. I guess there is just something that makes me want to clump it together with BUG because I feel like CCP is where the game gets a little closer to carry guns than full size guns no one really carries. Realistically, though, I wouldn't super care which place it went. I think more national matches are just more for people to get excited about and helps grow the sport, which is what HQ is or ought to be thinking about. Thanks for your thoughts.

@@dz-214If we could return to CCP's original capacity rule (8-round mags), I'd agree with combining it with BUG & Revolver. However, now that HQ changed the rule to 10-round mags, CCP is now identical to ESP with only one detail difference; being slightly smaller. Unfortunately, the new CCP rule also disallows virtually all of the compact double-stack 1911s, except for W/C. I’d love to be able to run my Staccato C or C2 in CCP, but both are a fraction of an inch too tall. Yes, I would like to see IDPA return to its roots and align the rules with its founding statement of values. Theoretically, one of IDPA’s stated values is avoiding the equipment competition game and its associated expense. Yet, recent rule changes have made both of my CCP guns obsolete because their native capacity is only 8+1, and the new rule allows comps, so there’s another $2K for a comp-equipped gun for ESP or CO. It’s not that I don’t like buying another gun, its that the rules no longer comply with the founding concepts. It’s no secret that very few folks actually carry guns that are competitive in SSP, ESP, CDP, or CO, and especially PCC. That leaves CCP & BUG as the only two divisions in IDPA that 99% of the public consider for EDC. The bottom line is that I think we agree that we could grow the sport better if our divisions were more closely aligned with EDC guns AND EDC carry holsters; get rid of the basic pouch worn at 3 o’clock, except for the full. Personally, I’d like to see (1) BUG, (2) CCP but slightly larger to accommodate the other maker’s double-stack 1911s, Sig P229s and so on that are currently just a smidge too big, (3) CO, and (4) full-size service pistols regardless of action type. Commensurate with this is getting realistic about holsters. The full-size service pistol division could use the traditional pouch holster at 3 o’clock, yada yada, however all other divisions would require IWB (includes AIWB) or pancake with the grip touching the body.

@@dz-214 they really need to make a CCP optics division. the true daily carry division.
@dz-21426 күн бұрын
@fuzzyeyezzz if they made the box smaller I'd agree. But dots kn a commander 1911/2011is just CO again IMO. BUG optics would be my jam if we kept the current division sizes.
@fuzzyeyezzz26 күн бұрын
@@dz-214 you're absolutely right on the size, a 4.2/4.3" with optics is essentially the same as CO, if they make weight. BUG optics would be nice, again, there is the round limit and popular micro-compact guns such as p365xl and G43x cannot make box without cutting the frame. This is tough.

Not sure how old the kids are but Valdosta is only about 3 hours from Orlando. Could make it a Universal/Disney trip after the match.

Thats not a bad idea...we did Disney World when I was down in Brunswick for some training. I bet I could get them to sign on for that....good tip!

Great idea. I think there should be shared stages to see how you would shoot it with SSP vs BUG vs CDP.

If IDPA would change the division capacity in BUG to a modern capacity like 10+1 they would open up more participants by that alone.
