This joint online presentation was made by the University of Chicago Library's two 2024 Mary and Samuel Somit Preservation Interns, Elliot Galvis and Amina Malik, on August 1, 2024.
This summer, Galvis and Malik devoted their attention to preparing the Hanna Papanek Photograph Collection for digital publication.
The Collection contains over 7,000 images from South and Southeast Asia, from the research and travels of anthropologist Hanna Papanek from 1950-1990. It has been digitized and is in the process of being prepared for delivery on the UChicago Node platform.
Galvis’s work focused on developing a process to enhance and upgrade the metadata for the collection.
Malik’s work focused on developing a decision tree and collection statements to address ethical and privacy issues connected with making the collection public online.
The work of both interns is significant, in that it has helped to set procedures and workflows for future digital collections that contain similar archival content.
