Yeah my old town was my "buddy" kayak I reserved for friends. I decided to start using it for all my saltwater trips.

Hey buddy, hope all goes well with your family!! Thanks for your fishing update. If possible can you please share what type of shoe or boots you use for your kayak launch. Do these get wet or water proof? Also, can you make a short video on what type of rods and reels do you prefer for salt water kayak fishing. Thanks and wishing you the best

Thanks for the well wishes. The boots I'm using are NRS boundary boots, they are waterproof and amazing, but they are like $120 bucks, which to me is expensive. For reels, I'm probably the worst person to take advice on, I'm using mostly freshwater Shimano SLX or Curado and I'm constantly servicing them at home because they get soo corroded and locked up. I buy bearings in bulk to replace them. Rods I build my own rods these days, but in general I use a 7'2" MH fast action blank with lots of backbone. For lighter baits I use a BFS setup, shimano zodias BFS rod paired with the shimano curado bfs reel with 10lb braid and anywhere from 8 - 15lb flouro leader. For my swimbaits I build my own rod, but it's an 8' Mag Heavy rated for 2-8oz, moderate fast action. And I pair that with a shimano Tranx 301, 65lb braid and 20lb flouro leader.

Nice to see you back! Are you swapping out the TM or do you have one for each kayak?
@cheethoe4 ай бұрын
Thanks man, I hope you've still been fishing! For the TM I just swap back and forth between the two kayaks.

nice, man. didn't realize you're no longer riding a Hobie?
@cheethoe4 ай бұрын
My Hobie is my freshwater ride, my old town is my saltwater ride. I get my Hobie tagged by the local lakes so I can't use it in between freshwater trips.
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73054 ай бұрын
@@cheethoe i see. generally speaking, which ride do you like better?
@cheethoe4 ай бұрын
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 Yeah they both have their pluses and minuses. I like the Old town because the hull seems more water tight and I can move the seat waaaay back so I have more space up front. But the rudder kind of sucks and there's a major lack of rails and storage areas up front. The transducer install area sucks too. Also for car topping the hull shape makes it super hard to get it on top of my car. Generally I prefer my hobie, everything is way better thought out, lots of storage areas, lots for rails, good rudder, the loader accessory, guardian plate for the transducer.

No more hobie? Where do you launch for PV?
@cheethoe4 ай бұрын
Haha, everyone is asking the same thing. I still use the hobie for freshwater fishing, I'm using this old town PDL 120 for saltwater. Launched out of Redondo and made the long trek to PV.
