We just started using the Xvive U4 packs for wireless monitors. They're not desperately expensive and work pretty well. They're basically a rechargeable wireless headphone app. I like them.

We have a bunch of those hosa cables and some of those procos. The ProCos have lasted longer for sure, but we have still had a few fail. We're also using that same interface for tracks and it's been working great.

For the IEM-extensions i would personally recommend using Behringer PM1 passive beltpacks with a long 1/4" TRS to XLR cables or a short TRS to XLR and just a long XLR cable. A XLR cable is a lot more robust than those small 1/8" headphone extensions. Plus it gives you volume control right on your person.

Interesting idea. Might have to test one out. So far the proco headphone extension cables are pretty robust though.

Our wired IEM's are mixer to Rane HC6 then out to the band via Whirlwind MQ cables to the P1's. The P1's work great.

I have all the equipment for that RTA setup, but I’d love a little help with how to set that up. I downloaded Open Sound Meter, and for the most part figured out the settings on there. The main question is, how do you rout the outputs to the Mac so that only the reference mic is being used for the SPL?

Easiest thing I found to run tracks is the loop community “track rig”. Bought one 2 months ago for my church. Use it with a base model iPad like the one you’re using. Has been rock solid. And since it’s also a usb hub, we plug a usb network adapter into it to get the iPad onto the wired network to run lyrics. We use multitracks “playback” app. The track rig recognizes the iPad automatically which is nice. I will admit I was disappointed with the build quality for what it costs, but it’s racked so it shouldn’t be much of an issue. Just connect the iPad to the track rig with a 16 foot usb cable and you’re good to go.

I considered that interface before I bought the Tascam one. Honestly wish I had just gone with the Track Rig now though.
@LBenjamin322
@LBenjamin322 6 ай бұрын
@@collabworship it really is the easiest way I’ve found, and I’ve don the interface thing, used an x32 rack for a while, but the track rig is dead simple. 8 xlr outs, usb hub and no controller apps. I think it is expensive for what it is, and build quality is lacking, but it’s pretty much a set it and forget it setup.

I wouldn’t suggest the Tascam audio interface. I had the same one for running tracks. But, it broke we sent it off to be fixed it just didn’t work well. We ended up getting a Focusrite 1820. You will have to adjust the routining but, it’s a much better interface for running tracks. Great video. Always love learning from other churches.

We use Maple sticks, which help a little. It's mostly just training our drummers to have some control on the cymbals. The drums themselves are never too loud. Cymbals can be very easily. We also pipe in the cymbal mics to their in-ears and set the level to where they have a good reference for what is "too much" in the room. If the cymbals are uncomfortable in the room, they will also be in their ears. That has helped a lot.
@chris58585
@chris58585 6 ай бұрын
@@collabworship Always a good "trick" when drummers are playing with IEMs. Just gradually bump the drum level in their ears a bit, not enough that it's going to hurt anyone or do hearing damage, but enough that they "feel" like they are playing loud and back off their own playing volume a touch.

Hello, love your audio and mixing lesson, I'm trying to apply it to my small church. I wanna ask a few things if you guys don't mind 😄. First, I already try to adjust my gain for the microphone and the musical instrument to 0 level. I make the master L/R at the mixer to 0 level too. We are using 2 15inch speakers and set to 0 level too. But it's too loud for my church room. What should I do? Should I lower the volume level on the mixer or on the speakers? If I lower the volume on the speakers instead of the mixer, Does that take away from the 'characteristic' sound of the speakers? Thanks! 😄

We installed the same Tascam unit last Sunday. Initially had an issue with the iPad recognizing it and resolved it my plugging the Tascam into a different port on the hub. We did have no sound or very low levels on Bus 1 and 2 and solved it by moving everything up to Busses 3 to 6 (we're only using 4). DOH - I just found the Line OUT 1-2 know all the way off. @@collabworship Looking at your space this suggestion isn't going to work, but I'll post it here for others to read and consider when designing their worship spaces... I'm at a church that, like you, has a fairly rectangular (long/narrow-ish) space. When I started there, we had the same orientation as you, stage at one 'end' but that meant we only had room for 13 chairs in each row, and about 10 rows deep. This long room configuration felt very disconnected for the congregation and from the stage. We only had a basic sound system and struggled to get even coverage (volume-wise) front to back. We eventually decided to turn the auditorium sideways and now have a shallow room (only 5-6 rows of chairs) but the width allowed us to wrap the rows around the stage in a big arc. We did buy an extra pair of speakers to achieve a wider spread, but everyone (congregation and stage team) feels far more connected to each other. The preachers can see the back row very easily and during worship, you can look sideways and see your church family worshiping and engaging with the service. It has made a huge difference to the feeling of our gatherings. (We also had the added benefit that in the old layout, the main entry to the room was to the side, and now since the renovation it's at the back of the room and less of a distraction as people enter and leave the room).

Thank you. Great video again. Why does everybody is having own capsules? Is it a hygienic thing? Then save some money and just get a grille for every singer and do sE V7 for everybody. e835 is the worst sounding capsule from Sennheiser, e935 is so much better. But in my opinion sE V7 sounds better than e935. How does that look with the cables for singers when they go on/off stage? Butts to the audience while putting the cables down? ;-) This strange moment, when everyone is doing weird stuff with their cables and inears, for me is definitely a reason for wireless inears for the singer row. ;-) Cheers
@collabworship
@collabworship 6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Hygiene thing for sure. Getting grills for everyone is a good point and probably what I will do for our newer vocalists and those that don't sing super often. For now, we have 3 of us who are regular vocalists and I just got all of us on V7s and just got dedicated capsules for us. Will probably get 1 dedicated V7 for less frequent singers and get each their own grill. Unhooking the cables can def be a little awkward for vocalists since our P16s are on the ground. We just make sure that everyone knows not to turn their backside to the congregation when they reach down, and to bend at the knee (crouch) instead of the hip lol.
