I get about 22-23mpg highway in my Canyon AT4 2.7T cruising at 75-80mph. About 20mpg overall, and I don’t baby the truck at all. I don’t really care about mpg, company truck and company gas, but these turbo engines are impressive nonetheless. Way better than the anemic V6s they are replacing.

Trying to get my hands on an automatic Tacoma to put it through the same testing, but I agree. These turbo motors are nuts

I can get 23 mpg in my 3rd gen avg NY to Fla trip. 26 I've never seen in my 3rd gen. 3rd gens love the highway but hate the side streets. Lucky to get 14 around town. Thats what really needed improvement.

10k on my tacoma. The trip mpg shows 30 mpg on many 350 mile trips in the 65mph range. 2024 sr5. Highway mpg rivals Maverick hybrid.

That is some ROCKING MPG!

You’ll get a little bit more if you put in a TRD air filter or a K&N drop in a air filter. I did the oem air filter for the first 3000 miles. Then replaced it with a K&N and my mileage increased by one and a half percent, otherwise 1-1/2 more miles per gallon more. Rolling at 75 mile an hour put more wind resistance against the front end requiring more power to move. At 65 there is less resistance against the vehicle, not needing nearly as much power to proceed down the road saving fuel. The proof is in your own test you just did thank you for your video.. have a nice day.

Tests have shown K&N air filters do not clean the air as efficiently as the OEM/paper filter. Have no idea regarding the TRD filter. For off-roading I would stick to the OEM for engine longevity.

I have a 22 TRD sport that I put a drop in kn filter and I just put in a TRD air accelerator and I put mmo in the gas. I get over 30 mpg when driving 55 to 65 mph. I really like my Tacoma but I really like some of the new improvements on the 24. I figured that if I can't get a good deal that it's good enough for alkida and the taliban, it's good enough for me.

This is why I think manufacturers need larger displacement turbo engines. If you can drive the typical real world speed with no large load (no boost) on the engine, you get good mileage. I do 75-80 in my area for freeway driving. Never have I gotten the mileage ratings on my wife’s turbo for the highway, only when doing abnormally lower speeds for extended times.

6mpg difference by driving 65mph instead of 75mph? I know you’re documenting the process, but that seems like a HUGE swing for 10mph.

in my 2023 jetta sport cruising at 75mph i get like 45 mpg however cruising at 65 I get 50. I will say 6 mpg is a big difference for something that is already only in the 20s however the Tacoma has shorter gearing than my jetta and it's un-aerodynamic shape makes it more affected by speed

I loved your MPG test with the 2024 Tacoma-seriously impressive! Want to take those numbers even higher? Try Pennzoil Ultra Platinum SAE 0W-20 Full Synthetic Motor Oil! It’s built to reduce friction and optimize engine performance, which could give you a real MPG boost, especially in the mix of traffic and highways you tested. As a Tacoma owner, you want top performance whether you’re off-roading or cruising. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum doesn’t just clean; it protects under stress, handles extreme temps, and keeps your engine running like new. That means less wear, more power, and potentially even better fuel efficiency! With your off-road adventures, this oil’s advanced protection is exactly what your engine needs to keep performing at its best, mile after mile. Imagine smoother rides, longer engine life, and yes-better MPG! How about testing it out in your next video? A fresh oil change and measuring the MPG difference could be a game-changer, and your viewers would love to see the results! Let’s see if Pennzoil takes your Tacoma to the next level!

What RPMs are you turning at 65 vs 75? What gear are you in? I have a 2009 tacoma 2x4 4cyl 5speed i get over 30. I can do 80 at 2500 RPM.
@MoneyShift5 ай бұрын
65 = just under 2000 75 = just under 2400 Both in 6th gear!

This has 6 gears and considerably more power than the 09 4 cylinder, to its credit.

@@MoneyShift yea i agree that is not bad either. I was thinking they would be like 15 mpg. i looked at them but need at least a 6.5' bed. it looks good. Im jealous.

People brush off this engine as just a 4 banger and that is a shame because it is better in every way compared to the old v6

Except for longevity, reliability, and cost of ownership. I’ll stand corrected if we start seeing them hit 300k+ miles. We shall see.

We’ll see if all the barking about it being a turbo comes to be true or not. If it proves to be more reliable than either of the old V6s…will be the real test of how good it really is.
@Frontier20228 ай бұрын
Sorry guys! The turbo 4 bangers will never be better than the V-6’s. You hide all the turbo failures from different manufacturers all you want but in the end “A light that burns twice as bright burns half as long”!
