Bought new 2022 Tacoma Off Road 6 TRD with manual trans. Pull small (all aluminum) utility style camper weighing 2200 lbs loaded. Live in Tampa but camp several times a year in the mountain areas of GA, SC, NC (600-700 miles each way). Installed rear air bags on truck at the get go which work great eliminating any "sag". Travel at 65 mph Interstate & average 18 mpg. No problems & sweet comfortable ride. Love gas & coffee at Buc-ee's.

I tested towing with my 2024 tacoma last week. My camper is a little bit lighter, and I had to go straight up some hills. It was a struggle going at a VERY VERY steep grade, but it did well. I have the 4x4 TRD Sport with manual transmission. I switched from a Tundra to the Tacoma because I just want a vehicle to drive around town, but tow my camper and boat occasionally (few times per year). The 24 Taco fits the bill!

BTW, I got the Blue Crush Metallic. It's the better color hahahaha

I have the Sport as well. I too have noticed the rocks flicking back. Not good at all in that department. However I noticed someone with a rubber flap extension connected to the current flare. Looked alright but Im definitely going 2 look into it more

That's why I got running boards for my 2024 tacoma TRD off-road now I don't have no rocks or fling on side of the tacoma i got the rough country running boards they were only 429 dollars well worth it

I wasn’t sure about those ones but now I definitely want them, they’re good to prevent people opening the door into your door too

@strike0909 yes there good for that car doors opening up beside you that's why I got them plus it rocks and mud off the side of your tacoma and back fenders

Yah the mud flaps suck! I’m waiting for weathertec to come out with some, in the mean time I had some more PPF put on the rear fenders
@OssaModo423 ай бұрын
Man why don't they ship the 2024 Tacoma TRD off-roads with the mudflaps. I did get some running boards that have a wide step like the 429 rough country ones (mine were only 270 on amazon because i know nothing about truck accessories). It took me forever to find mudflaps in stock (grabbed a set of the full size ark splashgaurd + mudflap combo) and from their pictures they do stick out wide. They are arriving tomorrow so i wanna get them on ASAP since i work on a lot gravel. I second what was said in the video, I can hear the thunk of gravel if i don't clean out the tires before heading onto the pavement

How do you guys think an SR5 4x4 will do with towing? Ya’ll think it will be fine? I’m gonna do some research myself

Is there a transmission cooler on that new taco? / Tow Package? The generation 3 came with a transmission cooler standard,,
@BrokenMachine853 ай бұрын
I believe all models (except for the SR trim) come with a transmission cooler. Fairly certain of this.

Let us know what happens to the transmission and engine after pulling 10k miles or the truck gets around 30k miles. Don't forget to do a oil analysis. Toyota had to be sued when they started putting those transmission in other vehicles and the internal solenoids have had lots of problems. Camry used the transverse version of that transmission. Same guts, different housing. They've had lots of problems. Mine was junk.

Always tow In tow in tow mode ! you put less stress on transmission when it limits you from going in the higher gear ! Transmission will last much longer !
@bryaneder6032 ай бұрын
Might not need to do the diffs every 15k. I also would encourage you to do some research on oil weight for the T24A-FTS. I believe Toyota tends to recommend lighter oil weights in the U.S. compared to other parts of the world due to increased efficiency/MPG numbers. However, the lighter oil weight will not offer the same protection. I have a 2013 FJ Cruiser and will never use the 0w20 that was recommended, instead I use 5w30. Perhaps the same could apply to your Tacoma's engine. However, it would need to be investigated.

Toyota doesn’t recommend towing on cruise control on many of their trucks. You may want tow check your manual on that.

Good video. I tow with my 2020Tacoma. It does okay but that V6 requires higher RPM to maintain speed. Definitely use tow haul mode. I don’t have it on my truck and on long grades I shift manually to avoid gear hunting. Gear hunting can increase transmission temp. If you’re towing a lot, service the transmission every 50k to 60k. The dealer will probably tell you that the transmission fluid is lifetime. The lifetime of the trans will be longer if you service it. I’m probably looking at a new 2025 Tacoma. Your towing info is helpful!

Did you test drive both sport and off-road? How is the ride quality difference?
@BrokenMachine853 ай бұрын
I actually didn’t test drive anything. I’ve wanted a Tacoma for years. When the time was right for me I didn’t even consider another vehicle. I knew I wanted a TRD Sport because I’ll probably never off road, and I figured I’d benefit from the stiffer Sport springs while towing.

Greatly appreciate the real world review. I'm wondering how much different the hybrid option would be for towing
@BrokenMachine853 ай бұрын
I’m fairly certain the towing capacity on the hybrid is actually less than the straight turbo. I think it’s down to 6000 lbs. That’s why I went with the non hybrid. I wanted the extra towing headroom.
@gaaarrryyy53 ай бұрын
@@BrokenMachine85 the hybrid tows less but I think it will tow better because of the torque. It loses towing capacity because of the weight of the hybrid system I believe. I think it'll be too expensive anyway
