I think your experience here really highlights something often overlooked when people buy new rear shocks. The tune is crucial. Particularly with more complicated rear ends like Maestro, DW, or Switch Infinity. An incorrect tune can prevent a new shock from actually being an upgrade in performance.
@DavidFoundCo
@DavidFoundCo Жыл бұрын
I learned this the hard way. Rear shocks get so much work between the brands to make a suitable tune when new bikes are being tested before release. I don't think average joes have the time/resources to really "upgrade" a rear shock

I ordered the Vivid Ultimate with the correct tune for my Kenevo SL. Its Rebound 55 and compression 26. Curious how it will perform. But im happy that RS sells them for specific bikes/frames.

I have giant reing sx2021. I've had the stock dhx2 performance elite tuned by giant and it needs so litle compression. When you put the 4 digit code to fox site it has super soft damping over all. When my dhx2 blew up i had my friends x2 performance elite (from cube stereo) for litle and it was unrideable. Even the compression full open it was insanely hard and i hadto run mutch lower pressure on the shock than him on his bike. The kinematics of the reing is the cause i think and ligter compression tune should be right thing to do. Likes from Finland👍 keep it up mate

Weird, my old giant needs damping on the heavier side I believe. That changed over the years I guess.

It must be the tune for shure for the maestro kinematic,I have a 2023 SDU and it’s ultra plush with the compression settings wide open and 28% sag on my TR Sentinel V2

Mind if ask your weight and pressure? I am 135lbs and had to go 40psi over recommended to 160psi. I am having same experience as in video on my Sentinel V2.

No issues with the extra stroke, Giant spec the Reign SX with 65mm stroke and a 180 fork, so I figured it should ok. So far everythings fine

Both are running their standard tunes, but I’d say the air shock tune is more heavily damped than the coil.

What 'tune' (Comp & Rebnd) did you get for the SDU Coil and this Vivid? Did they have a '23 Reign' spec build or was it a lucky dip?

Hi there I just watched your video again about how you took the only token out and your still finding the vivid harsh. I'm considering a new shock for my trek fuel ex 8 gen 6 with 140mm of rear travel. I'm thinking either the fox float x2 or the vivid but the vivid sounds like it's too harsh your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I have a float x2 on my 2020 reign and love it
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 Жыл бұрын
I had it pumped up a little too stiff, and there also was potentially something happening with the lockout oil path. When i first toggled the lockout switch it was jammed. Then it came free and has worked perfectly since then, and the shock feels more open. Now the shock is absolutely killer when set up right. I’ve just recently put the coil back on as I don’t enjoy the inconsistency of an air shock, with the spring rate varying anytime the ambient temperature changes

@mtbtelly5522 thanks for the update I'm really glad you got it sorted. Do you think it's better than a fox float x2? I do prefer a linear feeling shock well plush off the top. My trek is only 140mm of rear travel but it does have a progressive setting. What would your pick be? Cheers Grant

@@mtbtelly5522 so your first Vivid ride impression video is no longer valid? What were your final settings and experience on it once you sorted it out? I just installed mine today and my experience is identical to yours. Over-damped. 31% sag, HSC fully open, LSC and HBO on mid. Ride was harsh. This is a specific Levo tune. I’m hoping there’s more than 1 token in there to remove. I’m gonna go to 34% sag and open up LSC. But I’m doubtful it will make much difference.

Hello, I'm not your subscriber, but I sometimes visit your channel since you uploaded the series of videos on transition and setting up the Megneg. I was interested in the Megneg topic because I have one in a different bike with different settings that significantly differ from yours. However, recently, a KZbin user named Devin DeBruhl posted a video of riding the Giant Reign 29 with the Vivid, and his experiences with the shock seem to be completely different. What do you think could be the cause of this? I also noticed from your video that indeed, you rode much more confidently and faster with the spring shock.
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 Жыл бұрын
This was my first ride on that shock, and my setup was not yet where it needed to be. Also there was something happening with the climb switch interfering with the damping. After a few rides I had it dialled and its an exceptional shock. Great adjustment range and access, and excellent performance. But still an air shock so its still inconsistant in different ambient temperature situations

how did you get to a 300lb coil? I'm only a little lighter than you but I've ridden bikes with 450lb springs and they've felt bang on, even on giants website the reign sx in the large comes with a 450 so I assume it can't be too far off for me. my friend has a specialised enduro with a 450 spring which feels dead soft, then I've got another mater with a 500lb coil on a trek session which is a little too hard. guy on the enduro has a solid amount of compression and preload too. been trying to figure what coil I should put on this same bike, I weigh about 76 with all my gear on.
@mtbtelly5522
@mtbtelly5522 Жыл бұрын
Its all dependant on frame design. Some different frames use differing amounts of leverage to create their platform. My Transition Patrol I needed a 475 for adequate support, my old Glory needed a 500, my 21 Slash I was a 350, my Banshee was a 297-320 And the Reign I’m a 325 or progressive 300. At your weight I’d run a 325 or 350 and see how you get along

Is the resistance/harshness just the extra friction of air shock seals etc? And do you feel like you are getting any benefits of it being air ? Pop etc?

Just an observation, but you need to have more controlled breathing. Seems like you are holding your breath at times which is why you are out of breath basically all the time.
@nikolavrckovic1588
@nikolavrckovic1588 Жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. To breathe that hard, I would have to sprint for at least 30 seconds. And after that I would have to slow down to 20% power because I wouldn't be able to continue. And you breathe like that all the time. I can't afford that on a bike. I have to be in continuity. This seems to be a normal state for you. In many cases I hear you inhale through your mouth and exhale through your nose. The reverse is recommended. A good tip is to inhale from the lower abdomen, not from the chest. And of course, the pace of breathing is significantly affected by talking during the exercise. 💪😉👍
