Interesting how this was the last drop for the ball introduced in 2008. I’d say it’s good timing because this December will mark 30 years since the first computerized ball dropped. I miss that sparkly strobe lighting effect that the 1995-1998 ball had. If I could submit an idea for the animation of the new ball, reintroduce the strobes effect and with each second that passes, have it light up a different color. Red (60s), strobes, orange (59s), strobes, yellow (58s), strobes, etc.

There’s been several occasions over the past few years where a couple of bulbs were out. You’d think they’d be on top of that. I’d like it if the last two digits of the year were made into Philips Hue bulbs again, with different colors. I liked that in 2014 but it didn’t last long after.
