All this shows is how pathetic the pensions are in Canada. I worked all my life in Canada, unfortunately at a lower income level than many and I raised children on my own. So I wasn’t able to put a lot away in retirement savings, like many Canadians. My total CPP, OAS, and GIS is approx. $2000 a month, that’s what most receive in a similar situation to me. That’s a pretty low income to live on as an older solo person. Yet according to your reporting we don’t deserve a cost of living increase and yet people who make up to 90,000 get to keep all their OAS. Oh my gosh, 90,000! If I made 90,000 I wouldn’t expect the government to give be anything. What kind of a sick society do we live in! And you agree with this!

The pension (CPP) you're collecting was meant to replace 25% of your income up to the YMPE amount. The assumption is that over the 40+ years you worked, you would save and invest to make up the rest of what you need. Unless you were dropping out babies for the better part of two decades, you could have been saving before or after your child rearing years. Unfortunately, most don't get serious about saving until it's too late because of a lack of financial literacy education.

@ Hahaha, you missed the comment about making a lower income! It’s only been since I retired that minimum wage has increased substantially compared to my working years. Savings wasn’t part of my survival budget then and it still isn’t for the many people who are making minimum wage these days, especially with the cost of rent and everything else. My saving grace at age 72, is that I did save enough at one time to put a down payment on a small home. And my mortgage payment is less than rent so I’m currently not on the street like many. But maintenance, insurance, property taxes, utilities, etc. have increased beyond what my pension has. Sure I could sell my house, spend the money to pay rent until it’s gone and then what? Then I would be accused again for not saving enough for retirement or for not buying a house, etc. When I was in my twenties, 50 years ago, buying a house and paying our employee share to CPP along with the government OAS was suppose to take care of us in retirement. Obviously they lied, or were financially illiterate too!

These pensions were never intended to provide you with ALL the income you need. You should have provided your own income stream for retirement. Don’t rant about robbing those who did plan ahead.

Don't simply retire from something; have something to retire to. Start saving, keep saving, and stick to investments. Building wealth involves establishing routines, like consistently setting aside funds at regular intervals for smart investments

It’s really heartbreaking to see how inflation and recession impact low-income families. The cost of living keeps rising, and many struggle just to meet basic needs, let alone save or invest. It’s a reminder of the importance of finding ways to create financial opportunities. You've helped me a lot sir Robert! Imagine i invested $50,000 and received $190,500 after 14 days

A couple of years ago, I sold my buy-to-lets and invested in Bitcoin and XRP. The profits have been insane, and I’ll never go back to property investing. Robert at MicroStrategy is using Bitcoin as a proxy, potentially tax-free. With Trump pushing the U.S. further down the Bitcoin path, the future looks bright for this limited-supply asset. I’m all in.

OAS no increase,repayment,all while MP’s keep giving themselves big fat raises and pad their pension,wow,2.2 million dollar pension for 6 lousy years in office,mp’s are making over $200,000 a year plus other perks,they can save for their own retirement like a lot of people or make a pension plan that’s reasonable like other companies

How payments are updated using the Consumer Price Index Old Age Security payment amounts are reviewed each year in January, April, July and October to ensure they reflect cost of living increases, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Note: For the January to March 2025 quarter, the benefit amount has not changed from the previous quarter. This is due to the fact that the CPI for the last 3-months used to calculate the quarterly adjustment (August, September and October 2024) decreased slightly compared to the previous period.

Yea!! 6 chicken legs will do it while the gov.eats all the rest of the chickens.We haven't seen an increase yet, 😢 just a decrease.😢😢😢
@lesmcclaughry27324 күн бұрын
The increase for the cost of living should be based on the amount the cost of living increases not the percentage. Example, lets say your cost of living is $3000 per month and this year it increases to $3500 per month, that's an increase of 16.67%. If your CPP and OAS equal $2000 per month you would be getting $1000 per month from your savings. The government increases CPP and OAS by the cost of living percentage of 16.67% gets you $2333.40 per month leaving you short $166.69 which you have to get from your savings making your monthly withdrawals $1166.40. By using a percentage the government does not keep up with inflation while they claim they do/

Can you delay CPP so you can collect GIS?
@Blueprint.Financial22 күн бұрын
Yes, delaying CPP can potentially help you qualify for or maximize GIS, as CPP income counts toward your taxable income for GIS eligibility.
