❤❤❤ It took me long time, but I finally got a raised bed it's all set up and ready to go. It even has a little green house cover, so I'll be able to start planting in March. I'm still working the in-ground bed and hoping I can get it up to snuff by May. Technically our last frost is mid-April but I've learned over the years to wait for May. I'm looking forward to a lot of greens. Collards, chard, cabbage...... I have a unique problem on the tomato front. My husband got diagnosed with diabetes and wild though it may seem, the little Sun Gold tomatoes that I've been growing are so sweet they spike his blood sugar. Go figure. Now I need to find some cherry tomatoes that are less sweet. If there are any recommendations give me a shout.

Broke! You are on the money. I’ve been putting in work all fall and now winter to both expand and better stabilize my garden space. I’ve added more retaining walls, chopped and dropped, mulched my leaves, added compost and leaf mulch, cleaned my tools, bought more cattle panels, started seeds and now I’m resting a few days while I map out the calendar for 2025.
@BrokeFarmer2 күн бұрын
Same here, just need 2 more hog panels

Yes, I started adding food compost to empty beds after fall harvest and covered w/tarp. l'm already tired of eating green leafy this winter so, I started growing green beans, dragon tongue beans and squash indoors. I just put the next round of broccoli seedings outside with my citrus trees that's protected by garden plastic, incandescent lights and water containers. Will transplant in beds in a couple more weeks. Lastly, I started my lavender, thyme and oregano indoors. Excited about the new varieties of peppers and tomatoes I'll be growing next!

Broke, I've been asked if I am selling food or, tell me I should. I did not build my garden for market. It is a backyard garden...meaning, I have walking paths etc. Honestly, I can't put a price tag on my time! My husband calls me Farmer Dee when I'm out there. Maybe, sell some of the fruit as production increases but vegetables?..nah! Is it just me?🤷♀
@BrokeFarmer2 күн бұрын
If you have extra, coworkers, church members, farmers market or local convenience stores are easy places to sell fruit on a low scale

I have made my soil and continue to make my soil in layers just like in nature . I copy the way Mayans made soil . I empty my #pathwaysoilbank soil on to the food forest floor . Ya seeds are so important . For me it is soil ,seeds ,plant to plate to person .
