Completely agree with your Cowboy Carter take. It's insane to see (mostly young Gen Z) Billie fans saying HMHAS should have been AOTY.... if you can't even win your genre category, how are you gonna win AOTY? Mind you, Beyonce has been losing AOTY to the most mid ass albums since we were in MIDDLE SCHOOL! The kids don't get it 😩 But I would have loved to see HMHAS win Best Pop Vocal Album or for Birds of a Feather to get recognized.

Taylor Swift won AOTY for Folklore (her most deserving win imo) and lost the Pop category to Future Nostalgia. HMHAS is simply less of a pop album than Sabrina’s album. I still think HMHAS should have won Pop Vocal Album but it would have made some sense to me to give it AOTY while still awarding Short n Sweet pop album. Im not mad at it in general though because the grammys owe beyonce big time

I just believe if 2 albums are nominated in the same category then they're on an even playing field regardless of their specific sonic relationships to the genre conventions of the category. The best project should win outright, which for me in the AOTY category was CC and in Pop Vocal Album was HMHAS, but of course "the Grammys are a voting body of 13,000 people!" and not everyone shares my brain and opinions, lol. That being said, S&S is still a lot of fun and has plenty of bops

I think the major gripe people have with Cowboy Carter is that it's a country album. Majority of her fanbase are not country fans. So from the jump, it was an uphill battle for Beyonce. Despite if you liked or didnt like the album, Beyonce was able to expose how some corners of country music treat artists that dont fit their archetype of what country should be. Legends like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson welcomed Beyonce with open arms, and people were still mad.

it has been horrifying witnessing some billie stans attacking beyonce. at the same time, it saddens me that the response to it is beyhive completely gaslighting us into thinking Billie had no chance and that her album sucks. like... the album was great, stop lying. Billie making top notch music in her early 20's alongside a single colaborater is and will always be impressive. disqualifying her work is disgusting and reprehensible.

It’s not reprehensible… racism is. I actually like Billie and loved the album but she lost all 7 categories. By the time AOTY came around, she simply didn’t have a chance. Not because her music is bad, but at that point it was obvious Grammy voters did not like her album as much as others. It was a stiff race this year and brat was runner up anyway

@binkbonl yes she had a chance. stop with the gaslighting. taylor won aoty with folklore and that album won nothing else cause it made sense as the album of the year, but not as a pop album and other songs from other albums stood out. let's all stop playing pretend hmhas was not expected by every music content creater to win big this year. stan wars are disgusting. bodyshaming and racism is disgusting. editing photos of billie with her brother making incest jokes is disgusting. harrassing billie's 65 yo mom for liking some comments is disgusting. bey deserved her aoty, but it's ok to think her album was NOT album of the year. it's a fair opinion. we all knew that if bey were to win this year it would be SO bittersuit, but we don't have to make it more bitter and some fans (billie AND bey fans) are doing just that by harrassing them both and discrediting their body of work.

"Billie lost to Sabrina twice, so why were Billie fans expecting Billie to win aoty?" 1. not every album that wins aoty, wins other awards (ex.: folklore) and based on hmhas's success in all fronts (critical acclaim, positive audience reception, stream consume and sells) we naturally thought Billie would win at least one, just like Chappell, Sabrina and Charli. 2. Sabrina's album was more of a classic and safe choice for pop categories, but it's expected that grammy voters "split the wealth" and would give some pop categories to Sabrina or Chappell and maybe some of the general field to Billie or vice versa... 3. as we watched the ceremony, aoty was the last one Billie still could win. when she lost soty to Kendrick (she was the favorite in this category) and Bey won country album, we thought "this is it, they are going to award Billie with something right? the album was great." and they didn't. this is where the frustration comes from. it felt so surreal that she would leave that night with 0 recognition despite the amazing year she's had. many artists have won grammys before solely based on their success while having bad music. this time around, Billie's work had both success and quality.

My Problem is Grammy always give the award to people who will break record on that year even though there are more much deserving winners. Last Year, AOTY was given to Midnight just because she will break a grammy record. Then Jay Z literally tell grammy that beyonce never won aoty and grammy give her aoty this year. very predictable

07:00 - The reason why Beyonce didn't win AOTY for Self-titled (the album that influenced how music is released), Lemonade (the boundary pushing album), and Renaissance (the most perfect album of all time imo) is the Grammy voters for general categories are dominated by white people, specifically men. Why did you think it took 26 years for a Black woman to get AOTY? Coz they don't want a Black woman to win! This year, the voters are more diverse (40% people of color), representing the minority genre and with a widespread demographics. See what happens when they even the playing field? Talent wins! And also, if you didn't listen to Cowboy Carter, you don't have the right to say it doesn't deserve AOTY!

No offense to Kendrick though, but I still think that The Beatles’ are the true real winners for Record of the Year for their song Now And Then (But I AM glad that they won for Best Rock Performance though. R.I.P. John and George 🪽🪽🎹🎸🎸🎶🎤🎤) and for Song of the Year is Birds 🦢 of a Feather 🪶 by Billie Eilish. Hands down! But, I AM glad that Kendrick won “three” awards, including for Best Rap Song though.
