prices are... but everything has gotten more expensive lately

Really don't understand the brake criticism. This used to be the case 20 years ago before the electro-hydraulic systems, like the old CLK. THAT thing had soft and undefined brakes. The brakes in the 212 or 213, for example, are very firm and very confidence-inspiring by any non-sports car standard. Same with the SL and S class. I can't really imagine they are much different in the 214. Yes, an M3 or an Alfa has firmer brakes, but they are difficult to drive smoothly. I think with so many cars being so damn hard and agressive these days, car testers have a habit expecting everything to feel like a sports saloon. But that's not what most people want I think.

It's not about having the feel of a sports car but the confidence in the braking system when you put your foot on the pedal. It's very different pressing on a brake pedal that has feedback vs one where it feels like you're stepping on feathers. That's the problem with brake-by-wire systems vs the older hydraulic systems.
