I’ve been eagerly waiting for this upgrade for almost two years! The long delay almost had me considering the Cherry Tiggo 8 Pro, as it was the next closest car I liked. However, I was a bit hesitant since it’s new to the market. Thankfully, the X70 facelift launched on August 15th, and I immediately booked it on the 16th. I got my car delivered on September 5th and have now driven it for 1.5 months, covering 1,500 km with the first service already completed. So far, both my wife and I are very happy with our decision to go for the X70 facelift. We wanted a family-friendly C-segment SUV that offered good features, comfort, space, and value for money, and the X70 fits the bill perfectly. No other brand can match what it offers at this price point. As for the fuel consumption concerns, that wasn’t a priority for me; otherwise, I would have opted for a BYD or another EV. In my experience, I’m getting around 9.5-10.5 km/l in the city and 12.5 km/l on highways, which is quite satisfying for a car of this size!

Out of all the Chinese cars, I like Geely the most because their Chairman has the philosophy of not compromising on quality and materials used. However I cannot say the same of them being ethical in using outdated car chassis and that dated 3-cylinder engine in the Malaysian market. In China, they have been using the new platform (think TNGA) for a few years already, and its fitted with a strong 4 cylinder turbo engine. The reason why Proton X70 currently does poorly in fuel consumption is because it is overweight with 1.8 tons as its based on the very old chasis platform vs its peers using new platforms with gross car weight typically ranging from 1.3 tons to 1.6 tons. Thus, in my immediate family, I'd only spent on the X50. As for the X70, the recent facelift is cosmetic and minor, simply put quite insignifcant to me, and Proton and its paid Marketeers should not sugar coat and over sell it. I was expecting them to update at least the chassis or engine, one of which as X70 was due for the new generation release. Disappointed with only a "facelift" with minimal changes, I then booked the J7 a few days ago to replace the civic my wife is driving. I hope they read this feedback and are focused on giving Malaysian consumers their latest tech and products. If they continue to serve the market the way as they are now, I predict the Cherry and GWM Groups will at least halve their market share in 5 years.

If they were to give us the latest chassis and platform, the costs will go up significantly as all the production lines will need to be retooled. Therefore they improved what they can e.g. increased use of high-viscosity structural adhesives in addition to injecting betafoam into the hollow sections of the chassis. These strengthen and stiffen the chassis while improving NVH, thus improving the existing platform although the weight penalty remains. If the platform is proven and durable, it need not be replaced at a regular cadence. Look at Mazda's Skyactiv chassis architecture and Subaru's SGP. They've been around for years, with minor enhancements that are similar to what Proton did to the X70's chassis, just to add incremental improvements as the years go by. We should stop having a "handphone" mentality that expects every platform and product to be disposable, and that they need to be replaced on a regular cadence.

As of the update on 06.11.2024, I'm quite frustrated to learn that the new IHU in the PROTON X70 only includes Apple CarPlay, with no QD Link and continued uncertainty around when Android Auto will be implemented. This situation is disappointing, especially considering how essential these functionalities are for seamless smartphone integration. The advertisement suggesting these features is somewhat misleading. For Android users, it seems the only solution is to change phones. While I appreciate the customer service team's efforts, I hope PROTON can prioritize bringing these features to their vehicles to meet the expectations set by their earlier models and current automotive standards.

Is the steering wheel still off center? Potential deal breaker there.

is it really that hot if there is a sunroof? contemplating between Premium and PremiumX. is the sunroof worthed?
@adamhope375013 күн бұрын
it can be close, and preferably you want to open it only at night or during rain. sunroof is worth it if you like to let more light into your car or you just like more air into your car during leisure night drive.
