I honestly think these Micah and family car reviews are the best out there. Fast paced, funny and with way more useful information for the typical buyer than most. No one else demonstrates horn noise, rear window roll down height, LATCH access under hood access to regular things, gives feedback from non-enthusiasts about what they think, etc. I really think the Mrs. and the kiddo have really come into their own for making these well rounded and excellent reviews. Thanks for the great videos guys. Also, count me in as one of the viewers who always lol’s during the brief AI song at the end.

I'm starting and family and just got a dog so I needed more space and had to move on from my Focus RS. I ended up getting a 2025 outback wilderness and I love it! It's no sports car but it's snappy enough like you said and I like the styling of the wilderness (rally dad wagon 😁). I wanted a larger hatchback or wagon and it really is the only affordable option left without going to the luxury brands. It's my first Subaru and I'm surprised at the quality of it, it's a really solid car!

Nice car and nice review, but I cannot believe you called the engine on Outback XTs "2.5 liter turbo" , TWICE! The engine is FA24 which is 2.4 liter Direct Injection turbocharged and air to air intercooled. Very similar to what is found in WRX. A similar size engine with some major differences is found in BR-Z and GR-86, which are non turbo and direct and multi port fuel injected.

1:05 if anyone remembers, that used to be Lexus. They were the ones that always made sure to include a CD player and technology that the previous generation of buyer would still want to be using and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Because it’s usually a reliable and establish technology that makes your customer happy.

My previous 3 cars were Outbacks, 2 with the old 6 and the last an XT. All were excellent and I always got fantastic service from the Subaru dealers and Subaru corporate when there was an issue. Decided to “treat” myself to an Audi Q5 for my current car. I can’t wait to go back to a Subaru. The Audi is better in most every way, but not nearly worth twice the total cost (payment, insurance and maintenance) and the Audi dealers are horrible and Audi / VW corporate does not seem to care. I can afford it, but the Audi ownership experience is horrible. Hope I like the 2026 Outback redesign.

Sad to read. While the dealerships have always been horrible(I know, I've owned the Audi brand since the early90s) maintenance on these cars have gotten better. My current B9 S4 has been very reliable. Inexpensive to operate as well, as everything within the engine bay, is at your fingertips. Therefore DIY is a cinch.

@@MicahMuzio Im a first time owner of a USED 2019 CPO Outback Premium that I bought at a Subaru dealership on a whim. I was actually there for a 2022 RAV4 but I made the mistake of driving the Subaru first and it was much more fun and slightly luxurious versus the Toyota. The dealership experience was the icing on the cake since they weren't pushy and they always followed up on services . The previous used car we bought was a 2014 Corolla again at a completely different Subaru dealership in a different city and we got the same level of service. So far they are 2 for 2 at 2 different dealerships in Florida

We own a 2022 Tourjng XT. There’s really no difference other than different fog lights. Ours came in at $42K with every option. We did order it. It gets mediocre mpg at about 18 city and 24 highway (driving around 70 to 80 usually). It is VERY comfortable. The ADAS is annoying, but the cruise control is outstanding. The steering assist is annoying. The leather is wonderful (even 3 years later) and it comes in brown and not just boring black or grey. Ours even has real wood trim. It is quick and I’ve seen over 130 mph (on a closed course 😂). It has held its value very well. I highly recommend it.

I received an Outback as my rental on a recent trip to New England. I was impressed by the comfort and drivability. I think Subaru has a winning formula in the design. Were I in need of a midsized AWD vehicle, the Outback would be on my short list. I also love the wagon shape. There’s an elegance, even with all the cladding, to the elongated window openings compared to more boxy upright SUVs.

Currently own a 2024 with over 20k miles on it. A few quick points: 1. Turbo engine has some of the worst turbo-lag of any modern turbo car I've ever driven (and that's quite a few of them). Very, very difficult to pull away smoothly from a stoplight because it's dead/nothing, then surges. 2. Front cupholders are easily the worst any any car I've ever driven. Even worse than those old ones you'd hook into the side window channel in cars back in the 80s and before. They are very, deep but simultaneously wide. If you have a canned or 20 oz. bottle drink, or anything less than a super-mega sized Styrofoam cup in them, they will tip over side-to-side and generally cause a mess. 3. CVT is reportedly pretty reliable for a CVT, but the fake shifts are always poorly timed, and if you're doing 75mph on the interstate, it will "shift" up and down constantly. 4. I would say it's a very good value. It has a lot of nice features/technology on it for its price. 5. The EyeSight safety system is really aggressive and doesn't work as well as systems that use ultrasonic sensors or radar for the same features. It occasionally slams on the brakes for no obvious reason (no cars in front of me at all), nearly causing vehicles behind me to swerve to avoid rear-ending me when cruise control is active. The lane centering is helpful, but it is not capacitive, which means you have to wiggle the steering wheel every few seconds or it will start screaming at you, which defeats the purpose to some degree. Others with capacitive touch need much less babysitting and are less distracting. 6. The new Toyota Crown Signia is the only other mainstream wagon on sale now, but it's considerably more expensive and less capable in bad weather/off-road. It is, however, much nicer inside, more luxurious, and better styled. It's only available in hybrid form. Probably not worth the upcharge, but it's an alternative. 7. Gas mileage on my Wilderness trim is far below the EPA estimates. Best I've ever seen on highway was 24mpg and typically averages about 19mpg in a 25/75 mix of city/highway. I think overall it's a solid car with a lot of features and capability for the money. It's far from perfect, but if a car to you is purely an appliance to get you and your stuff from A to B, this is a good option.

My previous car had paddle shifters that I used all the time. I had a manual transmission in the past, so having that control for certain situations was nice. I’m guessing most people don’t use them because they don’t pay attention to gears and what they do.

I bought a 24 Outback with the 2.5 engine that I love for the most part other than coasting at low speed is very jerky and MPG is definitely below EPA rating. I'm a smooth driver and can't for the life of me get this thing to coast at low traffic speeds without a weird down shift sensation. Does anyone else notice this? Some forums are saying it's a torque converter Suburu thing but I'm wondering if it's just mine or not.

Picked up a 2024 in September for nearly $7k off MSRP, a fully loaded Touring XT. They were trying to make room for ‘25s on the lot and the price was competitive with used models, which I had been looking into first. If I could name any gripe it’s I wish the fuel economy was a touch better coming from a RAV4 hybrid, but other than that I couldn’t be happier with it. Perfect for myself, my partner, and our two dogs.

We purchased a 2024 Outback wilderness last year and it’s been a great experience. The power is good, the comfort level is great, very spacious for me at 6ft. The safety features can be annoying, like the seat belt warning lol.. however it’s negligible. It’s funny sometimes to be driving around and when u run into other Subaru drivers they tend to look over and give us a thumbs up lol.. we’ve had that happen frequently. Also everyone who finds out we bought a Subaru seems to tell us the same thing, “ those are great reliable cars” so that’s always reassuring. We went to big bear last summer and I had to engage the Xmode and I was surprised how essential that feature was. Needless to say we are very impressed so far and would recommend Subaru to anyone looking for a new suv/wagon cross over..

The XT engine is a 2.4L turbo, you've got it listed as 2.5 at 7 mins. The 2.5 is a naturally aspirated ~189 HP unit. Also, I'd forgoe a recommendation of the Premium trim. You can't get the 2.4 turbo in that trim, and unless you drive it you don't really know. Depends on what you want - extreme longevity and superb fuel efficiency with the 2.5 (getting 29mpg mixed on my 22 OB Limited 2.5), or extreme performance on the 2.4 XT. There is nothing in this class that can compete with the 2.4 acceleration, which is ~6s 0-60 depending on elevation. The 2.5 by contrast is ~8.5 which is on par for competitors like the CR-V and RAV4. The XT is a real sleeper, nobody sees that kind of acceleration coming from an Outback, but you pay for it. The Premium with 2.5 is an excellent value deal though. There's about an 8-10K price difference between a 2.5 Premium and a Limited XT in the real world.

Subaru is so antiquated with all their old features-CD played, 5 speed manual (which I think they stopped in the Impreza). No safety on base models. Wow.

I know Toyota doesn't want to call it a wagon but the Crown Signia IS a wagon.

Bottom line: this is a really good car at a great value. We just bought an OB Touring XT, our first Subaru, and love 💕 it.

I have had my limited XT for over 3 years now. Really wanted to switch to something else, especially something electric as we already have a Tesla model Y and have found that we don’t really need ICE and I hate the maintenance! But the Outback is really one of a kind. We would have to go to an electric truck (almost did) or a Rivian to match or exceed the Outback. In the end, we decided to keep the Outback for now, as the value is just too large to trade it in. I’m also not sure I’m going to like the new Outback, it looks more suv and less wagon. 😢 Also, I use the paddle shifters, but for engine braking going down mountain passes here in Colorado. We actually walked away from buying a Honda Cr-v because you can’t downshift! Not a big deal in many places but a huge deal in Colorado.

If the spy photos are accurate, the next Outback has a high roof. So this old car might indeed be the last of the station wagons. (Mass market) Hope not.

Remember when Subaru had really innovative interiors, great looks, lots of high performance technology, and was on everyone's short list for a poor man's rally car? Pepperidge Farm remembers. Now they are a shell of their former selves. CVT and open diffs, plastic cladding everwhere, interior technology that looks about a decade out of date, completely out of the WRC and rallycross games, etc. Now that the Evo is long gone, Subaru should be dominating the market. Instead we got silly Wilderness versions of regular cars, all of which will eventually leave their drivers stranded if the vehicle is ever taken off road on even the easiest trail. Shameful.
