The EX30 is pretty much the only new car I can get excited over at the moment, though sadly it’ll still likely be a bit out of reach financially when it lands here in Australia…. a used XC40 Recharge by then will likely be a more accessible and attractive option, especially as it retains some hard button controls and a more traditional dash. I do wonder just how much a single knob-button - press to switch between fan speed, temperature and volume - under the screen would have added to the end price though. Having a HUD as an option would have solved the speedo cluster issue easily. Still, the Model 3/Y are amongst the biggest selling cars (not just EVs) at present so clearly people don’t care enough about the ‘all on one screen’ UI to buy something else. I do wish EV makers could come up with AWD models that aren’t top spec models though, just put a 50hp motor on the front wheels and don’t charge 10-20% more for it. I don’t need supercar 0-100kmh times, I just want all four wheels turning when it’s slippery.

Great video! Does Polestar need to exist? I feel Volvo's branding/marketing is confusing in terms of who they are speaking to. Electrified Volvo models are going to be more than enough for most people, with similar or better range. So...Polestar has and still does have me scratching me head!
@armandoanillo951111 ай бұрын

Polestar will not make a cheap car like this. They're going to focus on dynamics, sporty drive, chassis, drivetrain tuning, design and these types of things. And their cars are 50k+ with the Polestar 2 being the cheapest. All the other cars will range from 60k to 150-200k for the most advanced, in-house-developed sports-car platform that is the Polestar 5 and 6.
@rkhrd321111 ай бұрын
Does it matter? Polestar has their own styling and product line. Just because there's now EV-only Volvo's doesn't really matter imo. Sure they could merge into one another, but I think Polestar is their playground so to speak.

Thanks, Doug, but from one Doug to another, I still love my 2016 VW GTI S. It's the same size as the EX30, but has better legroom for my occasional passengers, fits my stuff with the back seats down, and, best of all, I can still row my own gears and enjoy the exhaust note. You're right that I'm probably not the target market for a Volvo EV. I will give Volvo credit for designing a very well thought-out car.

Nice car, but cost cutting lack of a gauge cluster and the various controls not having actual buttons means its not a car I'd even consider. Hopefully Volvo gets it right with their next EV and goes back to quality, not cost cutting.
@tobias_dahlberg11 ай бұрын
This is supposed to be a cheap car. They had to do these things to get there in today's market. I can't blame them. They did a fantastic job getting this out there at this price point without too crazy compromises. Their larger vehicles will be much better feeling for "quality". Remember, there is perceived quality and then there is specified quality. I am sure this EX30 has great specified quality as is standard with Volvo manufacturing (even in China). But it has less attractive quality or perceived quality (things such as feel, dynamics, weight, material choices, etc).

It looks incredible, and I bet they’ll sell many. the only thing i don’t love is the glass roof. That might be nice in Sweden, but the Arizona sun will incinerate me
@caleidoo10 ай бұрын
Well, they trick you into believing it's stylish. It's only cost savings dressed up as trendy minimalism. Using a screen away from your view on the road is never going to be better than physical buttons or a small dash screen in front of you, or even better, a heads up display. It's cool and attractive for people who want to act modern just for the sake of it or as a millennial's first car - because like Doug said, they only know screens - but it will never be better or safer.

@@karstenpedersen7749 would love to hear an example… and I’m hardly an “obsessive Tesla owner”, I’m an obsessive car guy and motorsports fan that owns a Tesla because I drive 30,000 miles a year and it saves me a ton of money.
