During a three day hospital stay for emergency surgery, I was visited by the floor doctor each day for five minutes. FIVE MINUTES to see how I was doing. Each visit was billed at $500. That is ridiculous considering that this doctor probably visited multiple patients each day.
@sista_sue62412 күн бұрын
Medicare pays considerably less than charges. The doc may actually be paid $150 for those $500 in charges. Though Medicare has limiting charge rules. Are you on an Advantage plan?
@quarkybillКүн бұрын
@@k8scott1 in actuality your doctor spent 25 minutes going through your chart and all the labs and studies that has been done over the preceding day, then had to check on whether there was any hold up on planned studies and treatments, two or three times a day, and he checked you out to another doctor who took care of any emergencies that came up at night. So it's sad that in today's medicine patients don't get to spend more time with their doctors. But I believe that you were properly billed for an hour of services. Remember, billed is one thing, paid is another. Insurance companies negotiate rates... and the discounts vary from 80% of the customary fee to 50%. The uninsured really get stiffed on billing. But this is often the group that can least afford and least often pays up. So your doctor, or rather these days the hospital that employs him, is collecting about $250 for an hour of time... despite you very rightfully feeling slighted that you've only had five minutes to talk to them each day.

I understand that changes need to happen to save SS. The group most invested are those that are eligible for Medicare (62-70) should not lose any benefits. He's just scary because Medicare Advantage plans are really not a health success for seniors and now he wants to push that over everything else. He's definitely not going to go after big for profit hospital chains or pharmaceutical companies and distributors to reign in cost. RFK Jr is a former drug addict, spouse abuser, who has never run any large organization and has a bunch of fruit cake ideas and zero background in health. If ever there was an indication that Trump is giving us all the middle finger on health, it's nominating RFK Jr. The guy has dozens of skeletons in his closet and I hope Democrats make his confirmation absolute hell. His latest pick, for surgeon general is a family physician who not only has no public health experience but was like Kennedy against vaccine mandates for COVID and spreading all sorts of lies. Again the gaslighting of the American public by Trump continues. Fortunately, his FDA pick isn't bad (not all of Trump's picks are bad). And though I don't know that much about his VA head pick, at least that nominee's heart seems to be in the right place.

@@chucklemberg4968It’s fair because under current tax laws the FICA tax is a regressive tax. The insurance companies set the fees. The ama defines the codes used on the claims. Specialists think ama only cares about primary care. Primary care thinks the ama cares about specialists. I work with codes fees and insurance companies. Payers set the fees. The only way to affect them is to refuse to take that insurance, but they are huge monopolies. Insurance monopolies price fix. It’s illegal for providers to do that. Some hospital networks are big enough to fight insurance companies, but small clinics don’t have a chance. They really need to get rid of the cap. The rich have gotten break after break after break. Its got to stop!!!!

I’m retired and I created my own business. I have to pay Medicare and Social Security taxes which combined is 15%. I can’t use my standard deduction to lower the tax I have to pay for SS and Medicare. I can file long form and show a 100% loss for 2024 but that’s it, the law is three years for a total loss. If I have to pay Medicare and Social Security taxes on my earnings each year for as long as I’m self employed so should everyone else including the rich. I don’t understand how the rich don’t pay when the law is you have to pay if you’re self employed or working for an employer. What is the loophole the rich use not to pay the cap? If so that is really unfair. It should be 15% across the board no matter how much you make and that my friend would solve the problem. Just think about how many people make over $168,000.00 and then no longer support it yet, I’ll will never make over $168,000.00 a year but will feel the pain of paying into it for as long as I’m a small business man. Yeah, no equality with this current situation. I’m all for supporting Social Security and Medicare but let’s make this playing field fair.

Don't raise the Retirement Age, the Rich should pay their Social Security taxes like us poor people who work. I will be 70 next year and want to stop working don't think so...ugh

Unless they make benefits proportional to the amount that u pay into the system, I believe FICA should have a cutoff. For example, if I make a million dollars a year, and my neighbor makes $80000 a year, my benefit should be many times his benefit when we both retire. Unfortunately, that's not the way the system is set up right now. People that contributed very little, get a much, much higher replacement of their income than somebody that contributed a lot.

Raise the taxes on billionaires and start taxing the churches. Between those two things, Social Security can become solvent again. How many billionaires are there in America ?? EDIT ::: As of September 17, 2024, there were 801 billionaires in the United States - Those 801 people had their income increase by 500 billion in the last 5 months… for an entire year it would be 1.1 Trillion dollars

Do I need to check into anything?
@tinal.holloway21494 сағат бұрын
If I were you double check to make sure your covered. Just because someone or a program says everything is going go. Fact check it. So you don't get a bad surprise. And make sure you get all paperwork. If you need to have them copied for. Which one. Do so but always keep the originals. Even when you get these papers . They may try to say oh we can just send them on your my chart or email. That's fine but in sist on hard copies as I call them. So you cover yourself on making sure that you have them. So that way they can't say oh we don't have this or that. Or try to get you to send something that they claim that they don't have. When dealing with these companies you need to protect yourself. Like cover your rear to protect yourself. Hope this helps.

I disagree. For people on both Medicaid and Medicare, a dual eligibility special needs plan covers 100% of costs related to healthcare. And it also includes some sorely needed additional benefits, such as a benefit card that can be used for utilities, groceries, and even rent. My experience in life has taught me that extreme positions are rarely the correct ones. I believe that we should combine the best of all proposals and eliminate the worst of them to achieve a balanced solution that is good for everyone.

@valeriechramer157522 сағат бұрын
NO! If you have kind of chronic illness Advantage is not for you. I have a few relatives on Advantage and it works well for them but they have no health issues. I have rheumatoid arthritis with all the problems that come with that - regular Medicare with supplement was the best for me even if I have to pay more.
@kathygann763219 сағат бұрын
Advantage sounds like a really good deal for people just starting, but it isn’t in the long run. Very few exceptions are allowed to change to supplemental, but you can always change to advantage- that tells it all.

I am drawing SSI disability and Medicaid and get food stamps. I am so scared that him and his cronies are going to cut my Medicaid and then I would have nothing.🥺
@bryanfoxx22922 күн бұрын
The BIGGEST fallacy is that health care providers of ALL fields do NOT have contracts that run from Jan. 1 thru Dec 31 like Medicare Advantage Plans in most states. So one's provider might take your MAP at the beginning of the year but their contract may run out say May 31 of that year thus your provider may no longer take your MAP as of June 1st.
