I recieved this brand new old stock M69 Yugoslavian mess kit. The kit was made in 1975. Yugoslavia was formed in 1918 & broke up into 6 separate states in 1992. This one came with an instruction Booklet that I try to translate.

Thank you uwj Tatsuya. I was surprised to see it in my kit, but it was listed as new old stock. I guess they all got issued the manual with a new one and the soldier threw it away, or used it to start a fire. 😃

That bag had a strong smell of mold & old factory. I left the bag out in the sun for a few hours & the smell disappeared.

A very nice complete kit! only downside is that you can't really use it to cook with, but comes with all the utensils so that's nice and light to carry.

Thank you Jeroen. They did make an all aluminum kit, but it must have been rare. I saw a brand new all metal one selling for $100. It sold quickly. It's a nice kit, but lack of another pot to cook in, & no lid for main pot, limit this one compared to other kits. Probably would be okay for a day hike when all you need is to boil up a brew, or warm up some food. Square cups are also strange to drink out of if you have never tried it.

@@WilliamsKnifeLife I agree, yeah tried once a square cup didn't really work for me, tried it from the corner but still messed up. For an one day trip it'll do but would go for German/Russian/American/Czech for a longer camp. Ofcourse in base-camp the would just get chow in it and not needing to cook in it. Still it's a curious choice to go for plastic and the square shape. Curious what your next review will be on.

It’s great for cooking stews and the like in, being a quite thick grade of aluminium, it’s better than usual mess kits, they’re more prone to burning than this is. It’s easy to make a lid for it, or buy one off eBay, there are a couple of people who make them for the Crusader cups, Swedish M40/44s and the like.
