I don't often get to be first to like and first to comment on any issue. I have read 2034 and highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in history and our military. Thanks to Admiral Stavridis for the book and his comments on this program. And the Naval Historical Foundation for presenting to us.

A very interesting subject indeed. The massive investment plan just adopted certainly is an answer to the Chinese challenge. Not being from the US but having a keen interest in seeing our natural ally remain at the top of the food chain and being worried by the aggressive imperialist stance adopted by China, I trust the US will address the threat. The Spratley's certainly are one of these hit spots that have had le worried lately because the current Chinese leadership seems to be so keen on pushing their claims to the limits... This kind of attitude historically has caused major crisis and sometimes all out conflicts. I'm glad that in western Europe governments seem to have finally realized how dangerous China has become with regards to her domineering stance.

I would add this, looking at 20th century's Germany and Japan: in my opinion, what made them especially dangerous and aggressive was the certitude of their inherent superiority of democracies. 1914 and 1938 Germany military leadership was often convinced they could dominate just anyone and disregarded signs and arguments hinting differently. So were the Japanese, emboldened by their early 20th century's successes against Russia. It ultimately led to their demise but only after so much destruction. I'm afraid today's China is intoxicated with her perceived own power and recent achievements and driven by a strong sense of natural dominance in her region and her desire of revenge against the West.
