great talk - this is definitely a problem where blockchain can help solve for. We see a publish or perish culture in modern science and more pressure/scrutiny thanks to media/public perception. We can certainly use blockchain to help with rewards (even for negative result research) as well as better enabling sharing and record keeping and validation. Zero-knowledge proofs could even be useful in enabling secure data sharing and collaboration and trust. It's an exciting time and we're lucky we are seeing this come at a time after we've learnt about issues that come from badly designed crypto systems as Ryan and Sean mention

If citations are the current incentive model, then relational based citations where public DAO are incentivized to build or derive new or existing citations that formulate the truth on a hypothesis can work if people admit that the citations available are weak, or lack enough data or evidence. This way, the building blocks of existing infra (science) can be updated and therefore, propagated in a decentralized and profitable manner.

The biggest progress in science were made in Einstein's days when scientists got together in the Solvay conferences. This was a private bussines. So funding of basic science is very well possible on private money. I don't think Solvay regretted his funding. The results gave him more fame than his industrial accomplishments

That was very interesting, one of the most interesting apps for crypto I've heard of. The lack of negative results and "weight of papers" rang true (ish). A professor at my college, his reputation - not clever. But he worked hard and drove his team hard and the papers were incremental. But so many, he got professorship. Organic chemistry is pretty incremental anyway. Not sure how crowdfunding will rebalance negative results. Need a very patient crowd. The trouble is even basic science is very expensive. Chemistry, for example, you need a lot of kit that is 1) costly 2) illegal unless you are an accredited research establishment. Try and buy a rotary evaporator for home use, the DEA will want to speak to you. Also, scientist / entrepreneur is rare, I'd say due to personality types. Another professor had a business making solid state sensors for fire alarms but most, while liking money, couldn't do it.

This worry I dont think holds any merit. The supply is capped at 1B with a max of 50mil new coins coming into circulation each year (5%) over the next 12 years as a way to ensure there is incentive for people to contribute. Over the next decade at least.

An annual increase of 5% over 12 years does not equate to a consistent 5% yearly growth due to the compounding effect. Given the 90 million tokens , this incremental growth results in a significant increase in the number of tokens released in recent years.

AMS38T and Bitcoin are the two top choices. I would start with them. I consider them must buys. The others I like and hold is Cardano and Gala. In time I feel they will go higher than they are. Probably 2025 when the next bull run happens. AMS38T real cheap to buy in right now so the future profit will be sweet. I also hold Shiba Inu but that's a risky investment and not something I would suggest to anyone new.
