Wearing dirty socks that are covered in hair can cause this, especially if you’re wearing the dirty socks with shoes and walking a lot. Those hairs slowly work their way under your skin. Also if you have feet with lots of callouses and cracks it’s easy for hair to get stuck straight into that open, porous skin. Very painful!

I cut my husband's and all of my children's hair in my kitchen when it was cold outside and wore shoes while I did and cleaned up between them and fully cleaned after, but once I got a hair splinter in the imprint of my big toe. It was going round the circular part of my toe print and I didn't know when I went to work for 9 hours on my feet while running around and it hurt so bad, but I had no idea what was hurting me. Finally, I got home and saw it and was able to pull it out and it really was some immediate relief! It's just amazing how tiny things can cause so much irritation.

I had a hair splinter in my foot for years. I had a Boston terrier and ig a tiny hair had found it’s way in my foot and it was extremely painful to walk on. Every time I would schedule a doctors appointment the pain would disappear after a week and I thought it was over. One day I decided enough was enough and I got a bright light to search for where it was coming from. It looked like a tiny dot from a black pen was there. Sure enough I get some tweezers and it takes a while of digging through the callous of my foot to reach it but eventually I get ahold of it and it slides out like butter. I will likely never feel relief again quite like that, it’s indescribable. The pain was worth experiencing just for that rush of dopamine if I’m honest.

Ask a dog groomer. I was genuinely relieved when my groomer showed me my dog's (identifiable) hair in his hand and forearm, and identified us as a "high risk client." If a hair lands on the floor and you keep stepping on it, it may get stuck in your foot skin and as you keep walking, you will slowly keep pressing it further and further in.
