Thanks for this video. I've been thinking about getting a TomLov for a while (I have an optical scope I use for soldering) and this review finally made me click "buy" (the same model you reviewed). And I 3D printed the little adapter ring you designed!

Very nice! I need one of those, but for now I'll get buy with my collection of lit magnifying glasses.

Nice that the AF doesn't require you to yell, "FOCUS YOU F*** !!"; as is so common on several KZbin channels. Season's Greetings.

When putting it way up, it would be nice to tilt the screen downwards

Actually quite a nice unit.

Two questions. 1) is there an HDMI or VGA port for a second monitor? 2) Assuming tomlov takes your suggestions to improve the mount and lamp ring, could you, perhaps, do a second video showing those improvements? Thanks!!

Good review and seemingly good product. With regards to focus rack wobble I noticed in the TomLov presentation video (on the amazon site) they have the camera/focus rack mounted below the horizontal arm section - this would give better stability I think as gravity would assist and the turning moment would be less.. A question is there an auxiliary HDMI output that can be used on a secondary monitor?

yes, it has HDMI

The camera resolution and the auto-focus is really good. I am sure the lenses are also of best quality. Maybe they already are worth the price. As you mentioned the manual focus arm is very much the same as with my camera which is about an order of magnitude cheaper. With the concept I see the problem that the local screen is of course smaller than the one on my desk and it is in the way to see the large screen. Besides the position of camera itself should be adjustable but why should I have the screen on the same holder when it is also the heaviest object on the adjustable arm? It makes sense if you have no other screen at your workplace or when you want to have everything portable. Nevertheless the camera is impressive.

I wish more there were more reviews of these digital microscopes which do a comparison to an optical binocular microscope. The true binocular vision makes soldering with them so vastly better than the digital ones. I do get that the electronic ones have fancy screens, while optical ones are hard to show off on video. And that review samples are sent around for these, while that isn't happening for the optical ones

I agree the binoculars are better for me. I use one. The digital ones are good for some people. check out northridgefix on youtube. he does SMD repairs all day long and says after adjusting to these digital microscope he can sit straight and it eliminates back pain.

Looks fairly useful, shame about the focus rack being so bad. The smaller 8-inch display comes with the heavy duty arm, and the 10-inch model has a much smaller looking arm.

it's a shame they don't have a light with dual polarizers on it. you would be able to read that part number without having to angle the PCB if they did. those are not too expensive these days...

I have a ring light on an optical scope that does this. I can switch on different sets of lights that are differently colored/angled/and polarized until I can see the lettering on the chip. It wasn't a very expensive thing either, just a switch that turns on different combinations of 4 sets of LEDs .

Neat kit but would you spend $350 of your own money on it?
@hobbified3 күн бұрын
That's all it is? Absolutely. For a hobbyist doing SMD stuff, it seems reasonably handy. For a KZbinr, it's a no-brainer.
