very good design but man you are long winded . I think you could have done the complete vid in about 10 min if you quit rambling
@DannyWalker19497 жыл бұрын
Well, I sorta like your "Cook Can". But, I have mixed feelings on the Top being the Wood placement for adding it to the stove. You have to Remove your cooking containers to add the Wood. (?) Also, where is the "Fiberglass Rope" to seal the Top to the Base? That Needs to added to it to be completely safe.

If I may suggest a further mod, In the front where the air intake is, lift that a little and cut a full width slot about 1 inch to 1 inch and a half deep. Then you can make an ash pan to slide in the bottom of the stove. Not only would this make emptying the ashes simpler but woud add another layer of metal between the fire and the bottom of the can. Just a thought, anyway that is the best thought out, best designed and best executed ammo can stove build I have seen. Well done from a UK camper. Dave

Best Ammo Can stove design I've seen so far! Good job!
@maplehouseknives10 жыл бұрын
Are you really going to remove the lid and stove pipe assembly just to be able to cook, with what essentially will become an open fire, inside your tent? With all the smoke coming from your stove, the food might be enjoyable if you don't smoke yourself out first. Aside from the really old military pot belly tent heater stoves, there is a reason why 99.99 % of wood burning stoves are front loading. In my opinion, the only thing worthy about this stove is the hang drying assembly. Drag this BEAST of a stove out into the bush for a weekend overnighter in minus 20 degree weather and I think you will quickly realize it is not as user friendly as you may think! Thanks for the upload and effort though!

Okay, at first I was thinking you were a Rocket Surgeon building this......but now I'm SURE you are! : ). Good job on planning this, and the work is awesome! This is the best ammo can stove I've seen! I won't be looking for any more ideas on how to build one, it doesn't get any better than this. Thank you so much for the details, and taking the time to explain each step. Outstanding!! J.

defiantly a great series love the video like the 20mm verses the 50 call a little bigger but not to big, one thing that might help too is a fiberglass cord gasket in the lid part that opens up and the back part of the lid it may make it more air tight and more efficient and I'm ordering my 20mm amo can right now cant say again great video

If the copper pipe is sweated together, you might want to avoid any high heat source that might melt the solder that holds them together, Me personal I would put in a door on the side to feed fuel wood into, and some easy access for clean out. other then that I like most of your ideas!
@TheXJthatCould11 жыл бұрын
Awesome ideas great vid! this thing would be great for hammock camping, love the clothes hanger! only thing I wouldn't do is cook on it, don't want paint burning around my food, or smelling it when its warming me up, might get hungry lol.

outstanding bit of kit im a keen camper in i would love 1 of these for my tent you have put a lot of thought in to this and out off all the videos on youtube this is by far the best 1 i have seen
@surventorlist10 жыл бұрын
Thanks everyone for all the great comments. FYI I never cook my meals in the tent so in the day or early eve I take the stack off bring the stove outside the tent remove the whole top and cook. Once done I take the stove back in the tent put the top back on hook up the stack and warm the tent. Never have I made smoke in the tent when refueling. Here is the bad news I don't make this for sale. The parts and labor would cost about $400.00 and up no one would buy them. This was for fun and a few were made for family and friends. I made this video to show you all how to make one. Last year I also made a B.O.B.B. bug out bag buggy or a hunters cart. I soon plan to release a video of it on You Tube. Once again thanks for all the great commits.

I would not put cookware on the grill due to soot. Stick to hotdogs, burgers, and whatever you want to grill with. I would use the lid for pots and pans so you don't have to worry about soot getting all over your cookware.
@bjl10002 жыл бұрын
Instead of grinding the handle off, why not turn it upside down and use the hinged lid as an access to remove the ashes? The bottom, now on the top, could be used to cook on.

I watched all of your videos they were great for posting them... I liked your stove build very nice and thought out.. I have also make a couple of ammo can stoves too. I made one out of a 20mm and the other one of a 30mm my are called 9-n1 survival stoves, I found the smaller the vent the better, although my does have straight feet on it cause I steak my to the ground, I use mine in a 10' x 10; cabin tent and does work great.. I am glad to see you did use the bigger can too, cause nothing like trying to sleep and have to reload the stove all the time... thanks again for posting, look forward to seeing more...

What's a Brot? And a skoo The thing you are holding is commonly known as a skewer? But I'm f....d if I know what a brot is?? Oh btw the things you put on skewers (apart from illiterate numties) are called Shish Kebaabs. Btw don't argue because you'll lose. Oh and ps by the time you're finished test burning that to get rid of the paint fumes you're going to be too old to lift it with all its extras...obvious you're a car camper lol!

Rick Ridgeway Oh and here was me thinking bratwurst was from Germany lol! (I kinda knew I was being a bit facetious as he got on my nerves by missing the point of making these stoves altogether lol) Thanks for replying anyway. ..I'm building one but one for the rugged Scottish Highlands outdoor no grid type situation. ..no wheels either. ..maybe a horse if I can get him to co-operate lol...he's such a humanised horse that he sometimes thiinks "carry it yourself" and other awkward horse thoughts lol! I still think that this would be a good stove for camping and roughing it so I'll probably make one despite his being so annoyingly mis-directed!

Great stove,but I'm wondering how you joined the copper tubing. Seems to me if they are soldered,the heat will cause the joints to fail. I think I would use conduit tube,and weld the joints. Also, I Would rather not use it for outside cooking/BBQ. Just me,but I can always build a fire for that,and still use the stove for heating liquids,frying,etc.,so I don't have to move the stove.

Good. Not great. But damn good. Just a little overboard. Too much weight for me with some of the accessories. I can turn skewers on two green sticks rested atop the grill grate. Also the heavy doubled up bolts a little overkill for me. I assume that piece of metal channel running diagonally across the box that you didn't talk about is to prevent warping and bowing of the sides? Good idea with the "junction box" cover coupled with a handle for air control. That was simple and efficient. The angle iron stand offs for the inside grate...too much weight for me there has to be a better simpler option. All in all good job. Now go build an Ar15 for your zombies ;)

@JoelBenge11 жыл бұрын
You had me all along until the skewer attachments. Then you REALLY had me!! Love it! My only thinking is to make sure your hardware down in the fire are is stainless steel and not galvanized or zinc plated. As a homebrewer and BBQ enthusiast, I'm always concerned about heating plated stuff and offgassing. Not sure about the conduit cap at the front. That may be fine painted or not directly in touch with the fire. Anyhow, this is the best one of these I've seen so far. Great work!
@leehoffman128211 жыл бұрын
Great vid and presentation! Loved the accessories! I had a thin plate steel liner welded up for mine because the test burn peeled all the paint off it and I didn't like that. I also drilled a few holes below the lid line and used peg board shelving brackets to allow me to use the lid as a warming shelf when in bbq mode. I used a second can as a water heater in stove mode. A faucet tap on the second can provides hot water on demand when not cooking on the lid. Great job.

With the grill grate, the scew's, etc.. Your blocking the way to feed the wood to the stove. Then where the lid is cut in half and a hinge put in it, the smoke from the wood would find it's way thru the gap in between the hinge and the top of the stove, therefore smoking up ur tent. Try ur invention, then you will see.
