20th anniversary of 9/11: Fort Sam's Own Fife and Drum "Flee as a Bird"

To remember the horrific tragedy twenty years ago on September 11th, 2001, “Fort Sam’s Own” 323d Army Band would like to offer this haunting yet beautiful piece of music for 2 Fifes and Drum performed by both 1st Lt. Alekzandr Skye and Cpl. Lisa Guile on fife, and Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Viviano on field drum and bass drum titled Flee as a Bird by composer Mary Dana Shindler.
After the deaths of her husband, brother, sister, and infant son; Mary Shindler felt inspired to compose Flee as a Bird, which invokes the idea that people don’t pass away; they instead begin a new journey in another life where they will be together again.
Today, we honor those who tragically lost their lives during the attacks on 9/11, and those who continue to keep this nation strong.
