TOPIC: DO I RECOGNIZE THE ABIDING AND INDWELLING PRESENCE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST IN MY LIFE?
First Reading: Songs 2: 8-14 or Zephaniah 3: 14-18a
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 33: 2-3, 11-12, 20-21
Gospel: Luke 1: 39-45
St. Luke’s Gospel account reveals Mary’s profound receptivity to the action of the Holy Spirit in her life. In response to the Archangel’s message, Mary “went in haste” to the house of Zechariah, joyfully sharing the revelation she received and assisting her elderly cousin Elizabeth, who is now with child.
As the first evangelizer, Mary brings Christ to Elizabeth and her unborn son, John the Baptist. Saint Ambrose of Milan writes: “Elizabeth is the first to hear Mary’s voice, but John is the first to be aware of grace.” What a wonder for God to fill not only Elizabeth’s heart with the Holy Spirit but the child in her womb as well.
Moved by the Holy Spirit in faith, Elizabeth acknowledges the great mystery God has accomplished in Mary by declaring: “Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord” (Luke 1:45). In bringing Christ to Zechariah’s house, Mary witnesses the fruits of His presence. As Pope Francis said: “the joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and the lives of all who encounter Jesus.” (Evangelii Gaudium I)
This is the 1700th installment of our CFC contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
[NOTE: Let us listen to our brother Solphie Confiado, Country Coordinator for CFC Egypt, as he brings us today's reflection.
All the regular reflections are between 3-7 minutes long, enough time for us to ponder what God's message is for us individually and to pray that we may live them out in our lives. This video is also available on Couples for Christ’s Facebook page. In You Tube, just type ONLY BY GRACE REFLECTIONS]
