I’ve been interested in the 21 divisions and Haitian Vodou for a while now, I’m Dominican but my family are light skinned Christians (the type who negate their African roots and call ir the devil’s work). I thank people like you, incultureco, and many more for giving me perspicacity! Yo amo a mis raíces, quiero alabarlas, y agradecerlas por mi existencia. I do hope I get to expand my knowledge on the subject. I want to be able to show my children and grandchildren the power in our blood, the fact that we are someone far above what white culture has tried to impose on us.

Great video! Cleared up some doubts I've been having since I've been feeling called to this path, especially the part about whether or not someone can serve the spirits without being initiated. Thanks for this.

Man, so happy i found this channel. Most of them voodooists on yt are mostly showing off. the diva has a lot to share but she has to mix it up with all kinda crap, like she really lacks historic culture and mixes things up. this channel is really focussed on learning more than trying to make it entertaining. so thanx a lot bro.

I think they only do that cause Catholicism was forced on them and voodoo was and is looked down on so the start calling the dietys after catholic saints

Some Kongo spirits or ancestors may come down during vodou ceremony, meaning a non lwa. I've seen it happen in Haiti. It was short they danced then left but it still happens.

Monroe Rodriguez Singh they are still loa cause remember many of the Congo spirits are included in the petro division. We have many sub divisions like kita mondong Pemba lemba savan la mer and more. So part of the ritual when it goes to petro is congo and are still loa.

In Espiritismo any spirit can come down. Candelo Sedife has come down several times in our house. Sanse has a whole history of how it came about.
@Bembesito
@Bembesito 5 жыл бұрын
I respect your view but i don't see it is something that should be encouraged or that should be looked at as right. You don't see people calling orisha or npungos or hindu vedas or krishna Buddha to a misa ? Why is loa tradition not respected ?? Now i don't say its wrong that a certain loa comes into a misa to give a message, but its not a traditional thing. Loa can come anywhere honestly to give a message even in a misa, but i wouldn't have misas to be calling loa cause again its not traditional and the misa doesn't have the right elements or offerings to call loa. Misas or mesas espirituales deal with different energies and spirits that have evolved to not require things that a loa would. Totally different worlds.
@Bembesito

I would love to see documented history on sanse. Ive been looking for info on it for years and still have yet to find any thing to validate this practice.
@aaronfly4246
@aaronfly4246 5 жыл бұрын
I didn't say we called on him during a Misa. He just comes when he wants to. Now finding documentation on Sanse is not something you will find. It's a spiritual tradition. I can give you the history of how it came to be, the way I was taught. But other then that you not really going to find any paperwork on it.
@Bembesito
@Bembesito 5 жыл бұрын
Aaron Fly I’ve heard some history on it but somethings that others preach about it just don’t add up. Also many things being done by some supposed sansistas are not very orthodox. It’s almost like it’s a mix all tradition for some not all. There are people mixing Afro Cuban palo Osha with Dominican and Haitian vodou, doing things that are clearly modern inventions. Again I respect everyone’s view and opinion.
@aaronfly4246
@aaronfly4246 5 жыл бұрын
Well there is a lot of botched things going on in very tradition as well as Sanse. But Sanse is not Vodou, yes we have the 7 Lwa but it's closer to Espiritismo. What happened was back in the day the Espiritistas saw how 21 Divisions did there thing and the 21 Divisions saw how the Espiritistas did their thing. With the approval of the Lwa and the spirits that's how Sanse was born.

I was born and raised in the USA from Haitian parents. They did not discuss much of vodou with me growing up. I guess they though I would just picked it up and understand when I got older. Wow!!!!! you blew my mind. I grew up know some of my family served lwa and involved in vodou but never understood it. I have been searching for materials like books, CDs, DVDs etc to get a better understanding and comprehension. This video helped me see things clearly. You are amazing in your presentation. Thank you. Can you give any reference materials in English to learn, study and have a better understanding?

Monotheism is not an indigenous/African concept. They are Deities/Divinities before there was ever any abrahamic religion and their modern day prophets. Bump all that intermediary mess. When will we stop looking at African spirituality and culture with a westernized, colonial lens. African cosmogonies have concepts of THE ALL (Nun, Buluku, Grann etc etc.) if that's what you're referring to or looking for. And no, none of the deities are intermediaries to the all.

@Bembesito
@Bembesito 6 жыл бұрын
Antonio Valentine yes just depends on the person and their paths. The key is to choose a path you will work most. Also not to mix traditions. I for example have Osha also, I just keep things balanced and never mix one thing with the other. Every lineage should be kept within its track.

Haitian Spirituality vodou is vodou. If it’s on Dominican side it’s vodou practiced on dr side we spell or call it vudu or 21 division. What happens is that we share lots in common with vodou you find in north or border line Haiti. Remember also the island is ine and was united many times be it by invasion or what ever you want to call it. Vodou is vodou. If that island didn’t have a border there would be no such thing as Haitian or Dominican vodou. Another thing is that there’s no one kind of Haitian or Dominican vodou, there’s a lot of regional variation and lineages all over whole island. To also set record straight vudu or African traditions started on the Spanish side in early 1500s with the cofradías. French came along more almost 100 years later.

Okay I understand that because when the slaves came from Africa there was spread it throughout the island but what do you call it or is it still called 21 divisions like you said when they're Dominican people are going to Haiti to get asson and that is only in Haiti so what would that be called

Haitian Spirituality in Dominican Republic we call it 21 Division, it’s the most popular name that was used throughout the whole Dominican side. The name vudu was not used much because of Trujillo times but still it is used. There are many Dominican that get asson now and many assogwe temple in Dominican side now because of migration. But there has always been interchange of Haitian and Dominican traditions.
