I'm not the biggest fan of Phantom of the opera, but my first introduction was the 25th anniversary show. I tried to watch the movie and just couldnt get into it. Are there things you don't think the movie did well?

Firstly, even though POTO isn't your thing, I wanna thank you for choosing to watch my video anyway; I much appreciate it. Regarding your main subject: yes. As much as I defend the '04 movie (and will continue to do so), I also concede that there are some glaring issues to it. The deformity is far too tame, and in some lighting it's almost non-existent (which I plan to explain on why I think that is in my video about Gerard Butler as the Phantom specifically). Masquerade should NOT have a dress code, and it's even more laughable when you realize "red," and "green," are literally mentioned in the lyrics, but neither color is actually present within the film. Erik's Masquerade outfit is great but it's not Red Death. For as much as the main trio acts the hearts out, Final Lair is directed pretty strangely (Christine just standing there, Raoul being near crucified). Aside from it ending at Christine's gravesite, the cutbacks to old Raoul are often awkwardly shoe-horned and unnecessary (like in their attempt to have it bridge between Act 1 and Act 2. Bit of a weird juxtaposition to go from Erik swearing revenge to Raoul remembering his and Christine's kiss). I recommend watching Lindsay Ellis's POTO 2004 video essay to get a full view of its shortcomings.
