My friend doesn't like him, and I'm just lucky we'd been friends for years before I learned of that level of blasphemy. And that she wisely kept her mouth shut the day of my wedding (she was one of my bridesmaids) because half of his discography was my pre-wedding playlist.

Luther has always been one of my all-time favorite singers - since WAY back in the day when he was first popular. He has one of the smoothest voices there ever was, and I would listen to his albums over and over again. Still have them, too! I remember clearly the day when it came on the news that he had first had his stroke - and then some time later passed away. If I remember right, it only came out much later in his career that he was gay. Back then, most artists didn't want to let that be known, for fear of it affecting their career. I had read enough stories about him to know that some of those lyrics came from his own heart and experiences. After he died, I prayed that whomever he chose to love, that they had loved him back - and that he had experienced some true joy, happiness, and acceptance in his life. After all the wonderful love he showed his fans with his music, he deserved that love in return. RIP, Luther. (And I would really appreciate it if you would react to his song, "If I Didn't Know Better" - one of my favorites of his.)

Back in May 1990, this was the wedding song. It was the feature song my wedding. We were married outside by a stream in the country of a small North Carolina town. Absolutely beautiful day and when I walked in with my daddy, this song made the day magically, filling the air.
