"Neil is a great drummer"...a little understated as there's a really good chance that Neil is your favorite Drummer's favorite drummer...

The lyrics conjure up distinctive imagery and it is like a mind movie so your listening to this the exact right way...Smoke a big fat one, headphones on, no distractions, close your eyes & let Neil, Alex & Geddy take you on a musical journey unlike any other...

I remember when & where I was when I was 1st entranced by RUSH...Late spring day 1976 me a bud skipped school & both his parents worked so we hung out in his basement "Toking & Drinking" when my bud says "wanna hear the new album my brother just bought"...MIND BLOWN & I swear 2112 rewired my brain & although other Bands have come & gone from my playlist over the decades RUSH has been the only musical constant for the past 48+ years...I am 64 years old now & RUSH sounds as awesome today as it did way back when...

the record label label insisted they make radio friendly songs…they made 2112 😂

And put it on side 1, instead of the shorter, accessible tracks on side 2. Extraordinarily ballsy. But it MADE them.

I was 14 years old and a Freshman in high school in 1977 when I sat in my living room with headphones on to listen to this for the first time. My 14-year-old ears had no idea music could be this. I became a lifelong RUSH fan at that moment. I have seen them on every tour since Hemispheres. Best band in the world!

When I heard this album side in the spring of 1976, I was hooked for life!!! I had seen them in late 1974 before FBN or COS were released, & was impressed with their musicianship, with the limited playlist they had at that time! 2112 opened me up to appreciate FBN & COS so much more! Then they just kept getting better & better! FTK & Hemisperes were both amazing!

"Attention all planets of the Solar Federation!" 7 words repeated 3 times =21 "We have assumed control!" 4 words repeated 3 times = 12 Also worth noting is that 2112 is 9:12 PM in 24-hour format, and 9-12 (September 12) was Neil's birthday. As for where to go next, that piece you heard at the end was the intro to "A Passage To Bangkok," one of the several hidden gems on Side 2 that I, for one, would like you to hear next. Have a great day, and Rush on! 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐

Great deep felt reaction, dude. I have heard this masterpiece a million times and still fund new details, amazing details these guys could pull off. I highly recommend Cygnus X1 book2 with the he lyrics. IMO, their best song.

Here's the basic story behind 2112. Their record label Mercury wanted them to do radio friendly songs. This was a protest. They said we're not doing this for you. We're doing it for us. So they made the first half of the record all one song (kinda) and gave them the finger and created this MASTERPIECE This is the story of that battle. Neil Peart, after he joined the band, wrote all of the lyrics to Rush music. We lost our GOAT. He's playing for GOD now. 😇That was the last time I cried (Sorry Christine. When Stevie goes I'm going to lose it) I'm jealous because you have the cool earphones like I had with my old turntable in the day. Now all I have is my little computer speaker. There is a video that has the cool graphics telling the story, in the 1970s we were hit with both barrels(3?) with this, and only our imagination. " Listen to my music". "Hear what it can do". "Tere's something here as strong as life". "I know it will reach you." Thank you so much for making this GOAT enjoyable again. Happy belated 4/20.

Rush is a lifelong journey. Do Cygnus X-1 Book 1 off of Farewell to Kings and Cygnus X-1 Book 2 off of Hemispheres since it's one story on two different albums.

Should have done this with the VEVO video! Done in comic book form, and gives the listener a greater understanding of the story. Do yourself a favor and do this again in private with VEVO.

It’s interesting , for 40 years I had my own images of what this song meant. I was happy with that. Then I saw the animated video and it kind of ruined my own internal story. While the video is well done, I also kind of hate that it codifies the story, from a visual standpoint.
