I, too, was a 4th generation Christian Scientist, as well as “class taught”. Class taught means advanced training- especially necessary for those wanting to be a CS practitioner. I left 13 years ago. I have not yet read Lauren’s book, but intend to. Just stumbled across your channel/show. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I appreciate this SO much. My father was raised in this cult, and it’s incredibly difficult to find information about the lived beliefs, and truths, since it lives behind a well respected news outlet.

I was raised in the CS church. 3rd generation as well. However i never had Faith in MBE. I believed in Jesus only. I always thought like she said those victorian words were all mumbo jumbo. Us kids never experienced any medical neglect. We were all very healthy. I received stitches on the top of my head almost lost a toe and had it reattached. My Mother is still CS and is 81. We live together. She knows exactly how i feel about it. We only need the bible.

And I do remember a case where a child died and the parents were charged. Ive known a couple that neither one would receive medical care. She had a wound on her leg. She lived with us. She also seemed to have eating issues. We loved her so much. My mother told her she couldn't stay here any longer. So she went to go stay with a CS nurse. The nurse made her leave because she refused to eat she went to a CS home and passed away. We could never understand it.
