New Year and a new place to discover. Fantastic. The countryside is so splendid. What colour of green we have here. it looks a great place to get to know and I'm really looking forward to some more. Amazing that they built villages for the workforce back then. Nice homes too. I lived near an abandoned railway station in Manchester. They had rows of three bedroom terraced house that back then were built for the workers. The end terrace being larger was for the station master and family. You could just imagine the miners trudging back and forth along the river path. It looked stony too. So lovely to see you back. Cheers Patrick

Thanks Kelly, this was my first time in this area, so it was an exciting week for me discovering so many new places. The countryside was really lovely, especially as I got to visit more of the area over the week I was there. I love these old villages that were built for the workers, they have so much great history. Thanks Kelly for watching and commenting 👍

Nice to see the summer weather in our winter months. Sounded very windy later on. I have not been to this area of Teesdale, so it's interesting to find out more and watch your documentaries and filming of the area. The countryside/North Pennines areas so inviting to watch. Liked the deep rich instrumentals in music with melodic piano arrangements. Very nice indeed.

Nice to see you in a fresh location, Patrick. It's really looking good in this area of County Durham, and the countryside views are marvellous. The village itself looks quite relaxing and the County bridge is of a picturesque structure. Kirkcarrion is most impressive with it's copse and ancient burial ground.Your accomodation at the b & b looks most inviting, with plenty of room, like you say. A really enjoyable film, Patrick, many thanks and looking forward to the next ones on your journey there.

Hi Patrick. Although I live in Sheffield I have spent many happy hours in the North Pennines as mining has been my life long interest. This stemmed from the Peak Lead mining which fascinated me since my teens some 60 + years ago! Lots of interesting things around Nenthead to the west with long horse levels into the workings which are impressive. The Kirkcarron hill reminded me very much of my more local Minninglow Hill with it's similar ring of trees and bronze age tumulus. (My grandfather lost a penknife on the top of Minninglow I recall him telling me). I guess this is the first of a few such videos of the area so Iook forward to watching those. Always wondered what the connection was with Bob Morgan and I suppose that this chap was responsible for the script in your early videos? Anyway, keep up the good work my friend.

This is not an area I've been to but it does look beautiful. You have to wonder where the non sober workers lived. It makes you wonder too if it was temperance led mining company, if such a thing existed? You definitely had the weather for it Patrick. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to the rest of your week long holiday. I noticed a new musical composition/score on this video too. It's very nice if I may say so.

My very first time here too Chris, been on my to-visit list for a long time now. Temperance is a name referenced in the info I found about the London Lead Company, so your guess may be right there. I had the perfect week during my stay here as every day was dry and sunny, although perhaps a little too warm for walking. Glad you liked my musical score, it's my North Pennines theme, which I use in a couple of the other videos too. Many thanks for all your kind words Chris and for watching 👍

@solitaryrambler I really need to read your descriptions first. Doh! But thank you for the clarification. Another example of people imposing their will on others way back when. I wonder if the movement still exists or if they gave up. But I'll go and read your description now as I know there will be more info there. Thanks for getting back to me, Patrick. I hope you have a great week ahead.

I've not been up into the North Pennines for a long time, but years ago I was a frequent visitor. Also, when returning from the Lakes, I would often pass through Alston and down Teesedale, stopping in Middleton in Teesdale for refreshment, before heading off through the Yorkshire Dales and back home after a long, circuitous journey. Lovely area, and I look forward to your other videos of the area. Did you get to Barnard Castle, another place I loved to visit?

A belated happy New year Patrick. We're late to this as we've been getting some sun. Middleton in Teesdale is new to us as well, but it looks an absolutely stunning looking area for walking, (hopefully you'll remember I walked the Pennine Way as a 16 year old Scout, but that was 48 years ago so memories are vague), we'll have to add that to our to must visit list, look forward to watching the next 3, although we've seen film number 218 is up now. We noticed you've got yourself a new rucksack?

Lovely little town Patrick but hey that copse in a circle is almost exactly like the 'roundabout' on top of the Begwns near Hay on Wye. No Bronze aged Chieftain up our end though. Gotta say the superintendent had a pretty swanky looking place. I wonder if their kids went to the same school. Well, good to see you in a B&B - I reckon Alex Politzi the 'hotel inspector' would approve. Lovely. All the best as always. Mark

Middleton was a great base for the week Mark. I've just Googled the Begwns, and I see what you mean, certainly similar to the copse on Kirkcarrion. Yeah imagine the Super living in that grand mansion. I could see the house clearly from Kirkcarrion too so he would have had some great views from his window. That B&B was fab, nice room, good brekkies, nice chap running the place. I'm sure Alex Politzi would indeed approve 😀 Well thanks Mark for commenting and for taking the time to watch. All the best to you 👍
