I'm always learning something. Good video. I have a cheapy old "La Valeciana" bowlback mandolin that I bought for $5 and just put a bridge on it fom elderly instuments. No idea how to set them up, so this tip is great. Thanks Jerry.

Seems self evident to me, but just in case it's not, I'd recommend you check that your octave action height isn't a mile high before cutting deeper nut slots.

Thanks Jerry, for the mandolin tuning button tip. I have a really nice Sigma F style mandolin, that has broken 2 A string buttons. I thought they were tight, but after watching your video, I checked it and found that screw had a tight spot just before actually tightening up to the button. I hope this clears up that little issue. I love your videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Be blessed Billy from Derma Mississippi.

After watching this video, I said to myself everybody knows to keep those screws tightened, but just for the heck of it I'll look at the mandolin I have with those screws. Wouldn't you know it, they were ALL loose, and two were about to fall out. LOL

Jerry what nut files are you using here? I’m used to seeing you attack the nut w that big fret saw you use 😂

I'm tring to restore a kalamazoo 1930. The top nut has groves in it that go almost way to fret board. It has little bend in neck but but should play.. can I put like a piece of cloth under bridge to give it little more height?

Hi Jerry, love your videos. My question is, I've been playing guitar for 50 years and would like to buy a F style mandolin to start on. I don't want to spend too much but would like something that is decent, new or used. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks.

My preferences are either Kentucky or Eastman. The Loars are not too bad either. I think I would lean towards Eastman if you can.

Thank you I will consider that since a number of people have mentioned it in the past.

What do you set Banjo strings at normally?
@RosaStringWorks6 жыл бұрын
I use $18,000 for pretty much everything and the difference is on a mandolin I would make it a little tighter On the Banjo just a loose fit.

Rosa String Works Well I don't have a $18 000 bill but I'll use a pick ha ha

why not use feeler gauge 0.18?
@RosaStringWorks6 жыл бұрын
Certainly a feeler gauge would work just fine. I think my point is that most musicians have a thin pick but not necessarily a feeler gauge. Thanks for watching.
