Does anyone know where I can find the older podcasts they mention from time to time? (In passing, they'll say they'd done an episode on this or that, but most of the ones they reference arent on this channel.)

The only reason Justinian became a demon was because he wore the wrong shoes on the yachting trip.

When the Crusaders sacked Constantinople in 1204 they looted the tombs of the Roman Emperors for the gold and jewelry on the bodies. When they came to Justinian's tomb they paused, as they discovered his body was intact. But they quickly ripped the body limb from limb and joyfully found much gold and jewels hidden amongst his clothes.

The deaseas that killed Romans in the 6th Century was also the result of the climate change. It actually originated from Asia that went to Egypt and the up to the mediterrians. THe Persian Empire was still a barrier between the east and west as they were during Julious Cesare.

I probably originated in the Victorian lake in Central Africa. The eruption of Krakatoa in 539(?) cooled the temperature globally. This made it possible for the bacteria to survive the transport through the very hot Sudan entering the vast cities of Egypt. And it was set loose on the Ancient World...

@@eirikbelisarius1100 I think it originated from Asia through the shipping routes that went to Arabian Peninsula and then all around the Mediterranean. It didn't travel as fast through the land because of the Mongols relying on horses more than cows. The bacteria didn't seem to affect the horses as much as the cows. Then the population was also more widespread on the Asian Plateau. That helped the Mongols to defeat the Chinese and then the Khorasanis as they made their way to Europe. They brought it with them up to Crimea where they thew infected bodies over the wall in the siege of Caffa.

@@ExiledGypsy No, you are talking about the Black Plague starting in the 1340s. Yersinia Pestis (probably) originated in the Victorian Lake region in Africa. There were a climatic barrier of its spread north because the temperatures in Sudan killed the bacteria. They can't survive in very hot weather. The Krakatoa eruption was in 536. This cooled the entire planet in what is called a volcanic winter. This made it possible for the bacteria to spread through the Sudan. After the plague had raged it retreated to Central Asia to emerge again with the Mongols. The Justinian Plague killed off 1/3 of the Mediterranean population and you find abandoned farms as far north as Norway from the same period. It was basically as destructive as the Black Death 800 years later, and basically the same disease.

@@eirikbelisarius1100 I am getting lost here. I will look it up. Thanks. But I thought the Bubonic plague was the disease caused by Yersinia Pestis bacteria. The oldest records are from Central Asia. The cooling of the atmosphere was the short-term effect that also delayed the arrival across the land. It caused crop failure and famine in Europe and the east along the same latitude. The Indian Ocean wasn't affected so much.

Look up the "536 The Year the Sun Dissppeared". Great documentary about a horrific few years when frost would appear even in the summer. This was attributed to massive volcanic eruptions. The Plague of Justinian followed these years of tremendous famine.
