I agree with everyone that it's a damned shame that Persephone's solo was removed. Especially the final version of it. Because it tells us that Persephone doesn't just stay with Hades because she has no choice. She still loves Hades, deeply and passionately, and she knows what great things they can achieve when they see eye to eye. Despite what Hades thinks, Persephone doesn't want to leave him. She wants the man back that he used to be, optimistic and not plagued by insecurity. The man she hopes and prays and knows he can be again.

I feel like it contradicts the ending because she says that love can fix anything but in the end it fails
@madrose262 ай бұрын
@@redsteak6694 I moreso think it works out for her and Hades compared to Orpheus and Eurydice. It’s like Orpheus’s song fixes the gods’ relationship, but once his love was tested, he fails his own relationship. Persephone’s advice (no matter what version) is meant to help Eurydice have faith in her and Orpheus’s love, so on the way out of the Underworld, Eury has faith in her partner to the point she’s assuring him from behind in case he does falter and… Well we know how that works out-

i will say 3 true things: 1. It suckts that they deleted Persephone's part of this song in the cast recording 2. The whole scene is perfect in every sense 3.Patrick Page and Amber Gray have one of the best chemistries in musical theater

jfc patrick's belt on "i conduct the electric city!" (4:05) echoing against the sheer silence is so powerful. he's crafted a network of empty shades that occupy the space of shadows in his neon underworld. it's such a convoluted system, so intricate and intermingled, but so full of nothing at the same time. it's incredible. patrick page IS hades. this role was truly made for him!!

I wish they'd kept Persephone's verse; it mirrors Hades' verse to Orpheus and I think it makes the song that much more impactful, especially because you have to two contrasting love stories- Hades and Persephone and Orpheus and Eurydice's, and in a sense, you have the tragedy (Orpheus/Eurydice) and the happy ending (Hades/Persephone)- and this whole story is about love regained and lost.
@Mary-bc9df2 жыл бұрын
I strongly agree with you. It's the first time I ever hear Persephone's verse and it so powerfull and add a lot to Persephone's side of the story, in just a few phrases. And I wonder, are they doing Persephone's verse on Broadway?
@slapstickgags2 жыл бұрын
Eh, I'd have to disagree. It halts the song and the growing tension between Hades and Orpheus. At this point, the love between Eurydice and Orpheus, Persephone supporting Orpheus and the workers' revolt, all of this was established in the last few songs. Removing the verse just strengthens the flow of the show.

Persephone's solo is the thesis of the whole musical. She finally stops simply blocking Hades out and attempts to make him see that it's not his work that is pushing her away but his insecurity. She believes in love again and wants Eurydice (and the audience) to believe with her. This carries into her song at the very end, when she sings for Orpheus as he lives on the surface without Eurydice. She wants him to still believe in love and thank him for inspiring her.

I do miss that they chopped Persephone’s solo out BUT I think this particular verse is the best one imo. Persephone interjecting Hades to give Eurydice a word of advice the same way Hades is giving Orpheus “advice” makes sense, but rather than talk abt how much love sucked (in the first version) she talks abt how Orpheus reminded her of what true love REALLY is and hopes that Eurydice holds on to that so the two can be together. The way Persephone inspires Eurydice to believe in the hope of changing her fate directly contradicts Hades sowing doubt into Orpheus and god I really wish they kept this small verse of hers in the original ;7;
