As usual, a lot of good tips! Something else that I added this last European cruise that I went on a copule of weeks ago was a clothes line. It was a 9-night cruise with pre and post hotels, so it was hard to pack for so many days and my friend and I decided to do some laundry and wear again some pieces. We packed traveling Tide sink pouches and the clothes line from Amazon that even brought the clothes pins attached. We put it on the wall using the magnetic hooks and that was perfect. Of course we hanged the pieces of clothing on the shower and waited till they were not dripping water not to damage the carpet. We learn new things every day!

Hi Ilana! On our last two cruises I used a large suitcase and took all our hanging clothes (we hang just about everything but bathing suits, shorts and undergarments) ON THEIR hangers, fold the whole stack as one in half, and put them right in the suitcase that way. When we arrive to our cabin, walla!, we just hang up our clothes! Also makes disembarkation packing a cinch! The clothes have very minimal wrinkling. I've done this once using a garment bag inside the suitcase and the other time with just the plastic of a dry cleaning bag.I haven't had any problem fitting the large suitcase under the bed on Princess or Holland America ships.

I really love your videos! They have been extremely helpful. One of the things I’ve started to do is leave my hanging clothes on a very slim nonslip hanger. They take up a lot less room than the ones that come on the ship, so I am able to hang more. I usually can get a pack of 50 at Costco for about $12. When I get to the cabin I just take my clothes right out of the suitcase and hang them straight in the closet.

Me too. Ilana is a ray of sunshine! So many of her suggestions can be used for other travels besides cruising. Some of my favorites that I have used for all my travels are the soap bags that don’t make your soap bars all mushy and the motion activated nightlight. And strong magnetic hooks were a game changer while cruising, and I use them at home on the side of the dryer and deep freezer for reusable grocery bags and soft plastics recycling.

Thanks for all the travel tips. I do use packing cubes and swear by them. I take the cubes out of the suitcase and put it right in the drawers. That way you can organize your drawers without the contents actually touching the drawers. Makes for great organizing and you can see what you need. I always bring light weight bedroom slippers. I do not want to walk on those sandy carpets. Another thing I do is pack my evening clothes on a hanger and pack that right into my suitcase. That way it is much quicker to unpack and everything is already on a hanger. I do a lot of online buying and those plastic bags that garments come in are great for shoes. I do not want my shoes touching my clothing. As far as my toiletries go, I will bring full size especially body wash. But I usually bring toiletries that are almost empty. That way I have enough to get me through my cruise and I can throw the containers away when they are used up. Makes a lot of space for souvenirs. All this fits in a hard side 20 inch suitcase along with a soft side carry on. It can be done.😊😊😊😊

On our first tender after the storm, when we wore the jackets, someone asked us if we were from Canada, and when we said yes, their comment was "I don't know anyone but a Canadian who would bring a jacket on a cruise going south of Florida."

Years ago I found a book “how to pack”. It discussed packing for different occasions. I found it before I spent a year in Europe with Girl Guides and packing in one adventure hiking back pack. Your packing/what to bring and guide have helped me as I’ve started cruising again for the first time since I was a teen. A couple tips from it I still think about when packing. Iron clothes before packing them, even tshirts, can take up less room. Take items you don’t plan on bringing back with you. This allows for more space for souvenirs. Last one my family uses different versions of, bottles of alcohol in socks or other similar tubes of clothing means you know for sure they are surrounded completely. Mum used her square dance crinoline in an old sleeve on the way there, the bottle of rum in it as well on the way home. Surprised the customs agent when he pulled it out and went poof.

One thing about magnets.. I’m sure most cruise cabins are fine, but I was just on HAL’s Zaandam last month, and the walls are covered in something (really thick wallpaper?) that prevented magnets from sticking. Well, they stuck, but if you put anything heavier than a post-it note, they would slide down the wall. The cabin door was the same. We had to put the magnets on the door frame instead. I will say the bathroom door worked great. I put my heavy duty magnets on there for clothes and towels and they worked. But the rest of the walls in the room did not work.

@lokicooper4690, next time that happens, try hanging your magnetic hooks from the ceiling. They’re metal and usually low enough to reach.

I just took a 7-day cruise to Alaska with 3 days before and 1 after in Seattle. An elderly relative traveling with us has continence issues, so we purchased an unlimited laundry package for $59. It was worth every penny- it allowed us to pack far fewer clothes and go home with almost no dirty laundry. In order to save on airline luggage fees, we ordered a case of her adult diapers and had it shipped to us at our hotel rather than packing them in a suitcase. At embarkation we just attached a luggage tag to the unopened box with packing tape. We also ordered toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and hairspray to save space in our luggage and to avoid carrying liquids through TSA. The manager at our hotel said that they have no problem with guests having items delivered to them.

I'm going on a long (three-week, Panama Canal) solo cruise this October, and have my luggage planned out pretty well, already. Contents of both free checked large soft sided suitcases will be protected by enclosing all packed items in thin garbage bags. NCL only allows two checked bags, so I'll be stuck with a carry-on, and personal item, until I can unpack in my cabin. I plan to bring some of that spray stuff to take out wrinkles, along with a different spray thingy to allow me to get two days out of T-shirts. Going to Alaska in mid October on NCL. I have arthritis in my knees. I know I can not take a heating pad. But do you know if usb charged hand warmers are?
@judithovers96525 ай бұрын
You may want to check with NCL ahead of time if they would have a heating pad on board that you could use due to your medical issue.

I sail only on Princess and I've never had my heating pad taken from my luggage. I attach a note to it explaining my situation (two major back surgeries and I use a scooter), but my luggage is never even opened. I put a zip-tie on my luggage which has to be cut off so that I can tell if someone has been in my luggage. Good luck.

Any suggestions on how to monitor the weight of the bag when you have to fly to the port? Many times I can drive to the port I use so I never really scrutinized the bag weight. THEN I had to fly to Florida...and anything over 50lbs will incur traumatic luggage fees! I purchased a hand held scale to weigh the luggage, but you did not mention any tips or hacks to get packed and stay within the checked baggage weight. Thanks for everything you do! I like you vlogs because you frequently remind me of things (tips & tricks) I had forgotten and of course, many things I never knew! Love you! 😎😎😎😎 ALSO, just ordered my Level 8 Voyager 28" suitcase using your discount code! Will this suitcase fit under the stateroom bed? Thanks again!

From now on, I will always carry 1-2 days worth of clothing in a carry on. Recently on a group trip with 12 people, during a transfer through London-Heathrow, all of the luggage but 1 persons’, didn’t transfer appropriately. Yes we bought new clothing and the airline reimbursed us, but since we weren’t staying near a town in Scotland, that was problematic and we lost a half day of sight seeing. Lesson Learned the hard way.

I use one packing cube for underwear, one for T shirts , one for shorts / pants etc. my dresses are on hangers and packed on the hangers so when I get in my cabin I literally just grab the hangers and hang what is on them and then just grab each packing cube and place it in a draw. I’m unpacked in 5 mins , I know where everything is in their packing cube - I unzip them to store in the draws in the cabin so I can see at a glance what cube contains what . Yes I know there are hangers in the cabin but when I pack to leave it takes only 5 mins to pack as well I just grab the clothes on the hangers then the packing cubes on top, zip the bag up and I’m done.

@@LifeWellCruised Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I’m in the process of ordering and I’m just stuck on whether or not to do the 28 inch. I tend to overpack,so I feel like the 28 inch may be a set up for me because I could quite possibly pack too much having that much room. We are doing Utopia of the seas in October for my sisters 55th birthday and I am very excited. I have not done a Royal Caribbean Cruise since our honeymoon over 23 years ago. I have shared with the group that we are taking the strip on your information in KZbin channel and explain to them how much information I have received from your channel. I have already ordered some of your recommendations and am already putting things together so that I don’t have to worry about that, I have another trip prior to the October trip so I’ll be using those tips as well for my trip to Boston. Just for the record, when flying, anytime there’s lightening near the airport, the ground crew leaves the tarmac for one hour after the last lightning strike. So when they’re loading luggage onto the plane, there’s lightning, luggage is literally just left outside until the crew can return and finish loading onto the plane. I was breathing a sigh of relief that my luggage was the hard shell type, while I watched rain pour on it, while I was onboard a plane in Memphis and ground crew was taking shelter. When I arrived at my destination, I discovered, everything inside to be wet, including a very expensive leather Bible. Water gets inside thru the zipper. My hardshell bags are Away, which is considered to be one of the top brands. Live and learn.
