Important message! Please read :) I wanted to start off by thanking everyone in the Lockport community for their overwhelming support. If you have been following my videos you can see that they are somewhat different than most lock picking videos. This is because although I began this hobby as a lock picker I eventually understood that my passion was not in actually picking the one lock in front of me. It was to understand how that lock worked, all the possible combinations, and the different ways it could behave and maybe even why it behaved in that manner. I use a rear view camera in the lock so that the viewer can see how the elements in the lock needs to be specifically manipulated as part of my overall presentation. While I do use the camera when I am initially studying the lock, I do not use it when making my final picking video aside from the occasionally glance to make sure that it is in focus. Part of my analysis of locks are the ever so subtle feedback that they provide, both auditory and tactile. Using a camera while good for analysis does blunt ones ability to focus on the non-visual feedback. It also requires picking in a reverse orientation which make things more challenging for me. There are certain groups that rank themselves on their ability to pick locks based on their difficulty and assign themselves points and levels based on the locks they have picked. Understandably there are rules to what is considered a valid pick. These rules do vary by organization. For example in some European competitions tensioning a lock by using the cam is permitted. It is true that using a camera from the back to actively pick the lock or using lighting may in some instances significantly reduce the difficulty of picking a given lock. It all boils down to what one is trying to achieve with the hobby. Picking locks in your home with good lighting in a comfortable chair with no adverse weather conditions is a highly controlled environment. I am not a spy, a burglar, a locksmith or competitive lock picker so I recognize that my goals for picking locks may be very different than yours. I am in no way trying to mimic real life situations as I have no interest in picking real world locks. If you choose to believe that I am using a camera to actively pick the lock then I am okay with that, the goal of my videos are on the analysis of the lock rather than the picking. There are many ways to manipulate footage of picking videos. In the end you are only cheating yourself if you do this. Having said all of this, it is my understanding that there has been some concern about my latest video. I did pan the video out when I was finished picking to show that the monitor was facing the other direction. While no one believes that I have used the camera during the pick, there is some concern that since this is a first pick video there should be no doubt about the cameras use. After some reflection I agree that because of the nature of this video as being a first pick video that It should be reshot. Here is a link to that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIitgml5h7uJiKM

What a fantastic presentation and pick in this video Arti👌 I know at least one really good picker than pins progressively and there isn't much difference between that and using a camera to learn in my book. I don't see a problem. Obviously, for a pure picking test it's, in the end, only interesting to pick a lock not touched before at all, out of package pick style. Great work and the total quality of your video is very high. Thanks for sharing this 👍

Awesome video, I am no locksmith but can appreciate the skill used to pick this lock. Other youtubers say the Medeco M4 is virtually unpickable. Saves paying a king's ransom for Medeco and makes me feel better using affordable locks, Lockwood, Brava etc.

Great picking and awesome lock analysis! The reverse view to the keyhole was really nice, too. Could you share details about the camera you used there? I have to wonder, why did you sensor the side of the key in this video? It's not like the keycut is secret when you show all the pins.

If ASSA modified this lock to *always* have mixed binding order between different parts, do you think it would make picking harder even the the binding order were totally static as a result? (They could do this by e.g. intentionally using thinner pins in every even chamber.)

Maybe the M5 will have the assa pins from a twin 6000 on the left and have the normal medeco sidebar to the right 👀

I apologize for my ire, i do agree there is a difference between hobby and vocation. My only fear is that customers watching this video find that no lock is safe: That is untrue. if you can really do that, maybe you should be a locksmith. Cheers, my apologies.

Sorry but I have to correct you. "Every model" does NOT have 6 sidebar projections. Medeco has 5 pin cylinders and keys. Their sidebar only has 5.

You are correct! I often have a skewed perspective of locks. I specifically analyze the "full" model. Thank you for your correction.

Ok so it's nice to pin your cylinder knowing the cuts. When a customer loses the key and the lock was not bought from your business, what do you do then? You don't have the advantage of a camera showing you the back of the plug. Congrats on picking in a vice. I would love for you to pick that in the REAL WORLD. A locked deadbolt, with a frantic lady, a baby inside. Sometimes picking is just a game to film a video on KZbin.
@ThePurpleGas
@ThePurpleGas Жыл бұрын
I'm relatively certain that you did not actually pick the lock. The core should actually rotate a lot more than that if you've successfully picked the lock. It looked like to me you weren't able to rotate the core any further.
@ArtichokeTwoThousand
@ArtichokeTwoThousand Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. There is a cam (you can see me removing it @18:25 ) on the back of the lock that when mounted in a vise will limit rotation in a plug. Remember this is not mounted on a door. Once this medeco opens to that degree it can be rotated 360 degrees by design therefore it doesn't have to be shown. No major locksporter will contest that this is a real open, the only gripe was about the camera in the back hence a second video (listed in my comment above) which you viewed and commented on as well.
@al.locksmith7439
@al.locksmith7439 2 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking, That pick you did, is NOT an actual successful pick. A true lock picking is done while the lockset is on the door, with no chance of looking inside the locking mechanism while picking the lock. Make another video with the camera facing you and the lockset, to show you picking the lock without looking inside the lock. I can bet, that video will not come to fruition. Good try though. So, no. That is not really considered a first pick ever. Better try again. You don't have me fooled. And yes, the M4 is by far, the best, so far.

Thank you for your comment. Please see my pinned comment for further details. Here is a video without the camera kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIitgml5h7uJiKM . While I appreciate a health bit of skepticism you must realize that I am in the top tier of lock pickers in the world. I can open most any Medeco that you will put in front of me. No lock is pickproof. I can pick the m4, you can call Medeco and they will tell you the same. If you want to fly me first class to your location and put down some money to see it first hand I will oblige but my services are not cheap. Be well sir.

he isn't using the lock cam to help him pick the lock, its to show the locksport community how the lock works, and how it was picked in great depth. but he isn't relying on it, if u follow his channel you would understand. he's not joking when he said he is among the best in the world

Technically speaking, Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson didn't actually knock anyone out in a fight. We all know that what's done in the ring can't possibly be done in the street. The conditions in the ring are controlled to make it possible for a fighter to get knocked out. There is no way they could replicate those skills in a real fight. *sigh*
