“Perk up”, comes from when coffee used to be made on the stove in a “percolator” , (or coffee pot). The coffee grounds would be in a small basket at the top of the percolator and water in the bottom. The water would boil on the stove and move up through a tube at the center of the percolator to come out on top of the coffee grounds then drip back down into the water. This would repeat itself again and again until all of the water had become coffee. You’re welcome.

Nope. perk was being used LONG before coffee was a thing. It simply means to enliven ... percolation is way later in origin. But, the image of a percolating pot is envigorating....

👐Marina, you made my English go like Boom beep boom. When I was 14 I was super boring in my speaking and I found out your channel in 15. I actually took some Grammar lessons here. So during any competitions where I need to speak English I was able but now I top my school! Just you know why? I followed your way of speaking and I am topping for 2 years in English !!! @@nodirarahmankulova742 depends on where you are in the US. It's widely used in a formal way in the southern US states. Kids are taught to address/respond to adults with "Yes ma'am, no Sir" etc... But definitely not all that common everywhere... it's viewed as somewhat stiff.
