22 people from Flight SQ321 getting treatment for spinal injuries

The Director of Bangkok's Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, Adinun Kittiratanapaibool said on Thursday (May 23) that 40 people aboard the Singapore Airlines flight that hit severe turbulence were still receiving medical treatment, with 22 people having sustained spinal injuries. I don't understand why a large number of people are not belted when in flight? It seems more than 80% of these passengers are not wearing seat belts all the time when seated as per recommendation. Do they have comprehension issue, attitude issue or can't be bothered?

They have a seatbelt light that turns off telling people that they can be removed. It comes on for take off and landing. You have never flown before?

@@mamabemoreunicorn even when seatbelt light is off, it doesn't mean you should unbuckle your seatbelt if you are seated. It's only a sign that you can go to the toilet if you need. You have never flown before? They will still recommend you remain belted when you are sitting down. What @twlamSG is saying is, why were so many passengers unbelted? It can't be that 30 (~10+ crew) people were trying to go toilet??? There're only like 4-6 toilets.

@@mamabemoreunicorn Who hasn't flew before? So what if they have the light. It doesn't mean you can take it off at all times, it only means you can take it off if you need to go to the toilet or something. Every flight I have been we were told to keep our belt on if seated.

I guess probably some of the seat belts on that Boeing plane aren't working. For example, the seat belt buckle cannot fasten due to faulty mechanism.
