literally mind blowing... I've stumbled upon the concept of 22 shrutis just at the right time as I've just begun training my ears to identify notes without the help of harmonium or keyboard, and this video is super useful for its practical implementation in music production, we're blessed to be alive at a time when technology and ancient knowledge have come together in an easily accessible form, I hope more and more musicians realize how big this research is by Dr. Vidyadhar Oak ji. and thank you Dr. Sangeeta Shankar ji for putting these videos up on youtube, couldn't have asked for a better person than Mahesh Raghvan to demonstrate this! 🙏

Mr. Raghvan: Very nice tutorial. I have a question about Geoshred tuning on sruti scale for various ragas is concern, is it really necessary to readjust/ customise scale, IF A SPECIFIC RAGA IS SELECTED FROM THE INDIAN RAGA MENU ? However, your tutorial is definitely helps to understand how to customise scale for various ragas.

Different ragas have different shruti. Eg 4 kinds of Re. Thus the 7 notes have to be adjusted to which shruti is actually in the raga.

The explanation as to how shrutis can be set through software is interesting. However, to prove the consonance or dissonance by comparing chords played with equal temperament (ET) notes and Shruti notes is probably incorrect for two reasons: 1) chords are not native to Hindustani classical music for which Shrut's are designed for. 2) Even if chords are played, the duration is not significant, and the dissonance, if any, gets masked by a whole array of other accompanying instruments of various kinds, not to mention the vocals, which is the centrepiece of a vocal performance.

Good presentation indeed . However , I am interested in knowing as to how have you arrived at the adjustment values to reach to the correct shruti ? Because , when I did the same exercise i.e. comparing 22 shruti and ET value , I arrived at different figures and in most cases the differences are in decimal values also . In geoshred , I have observed that there is no provision for entering decimal values. I arrived at the following ( differential) values : R2:0 .708 G1: -2.91 M1: -0.45 P :0 .50 d2 :3.70 n1 : -1.20 There is a lot of difference ! Where am I going wrong ??
