Did anyone else find Starblazers 2202 a little convoluted? I loved the rebooted intro-Zwowder’s soliloquy on love...that extreme closeup of his eye, and then that shrieking introduction to the White Comet. Bone chilling. After that it all seemed to go downhill. Maybe I’m just dogmatic in my liking for the original.

Yeah, series went into pedal-to-the-metal serial escalation and info dumps. New faces were introduced out of nowhere only to be not mentioned again. Probably getting ready for 2205 (which was officially announced few days ago) but they still could chill a little. Not only that, established characters were regressed from many lessons they had in first season because... drama, I guess? What pained me the most was CGI downgrade. 2199 had particle and debris effects that many Gundams could be jealous of at the time. You could feel the scale of ships, firepower they carry, destruction they take even when going down in one shot. 2202 on the other hand 90% of the time had this cartoonish "fireball" effect that masked the whole wreck to cut on the animation budget... which was saved for more pointless copy and paste explosions and WMG salvos.

Weird director ideas, convoluted plot, outright HORRENDOUS cgi downgrade and laughable serial escalation of combat that made you not take anything seriously, knowing that only plot devices can solve anything... But soundtrack stayed impressive as always. Nice.
