Watching this made me realise it's been about twenty years since I last saw Green Card with Gerard and Andie MacDowell. Andie was magic in Groundhog Day with Bill Murray, and I remember that Green Card was a pretty darn good film from her and Gerard's performances. And that was the first time I'd also heard part of a song (Storms in Africa) by Enya in a movie, which I fell in love with, and still love listening to. I'd forgotten that Green Card was written, produced and directed by the very talented Peter Weir. Just about time to watch it again.

I don't know if it was an artistic choice, but the fact that at one moment, close to the beginning of the conversation on wine, Monsieur Depardieu is sitting there all happy-go-lucky, his face free of any burden, and when the wine is brought out to be poured, he is wearing glasses when the camera goes back to the wide shot, and he is zeroing in on the amount that is being poured, as if with a magnifying glass. That is so French you can't write it.

Baba au Rhum is originally a French dessert from Nancy created by the French-polish cook of Stanislas Lesczynski (Leczynski was by the time King of Poland , and then Duke of Lorraine). It is a mix of polish dessert Babka and Alsatian/Lorraine-Swiss-Austrian-German Gugelhupf cake. It became later popular in Naples, where they made variations of it with Limoncello and ice.
